joel_rosenbaum 1269 Posted July 10, 2016 Robocop Total Recall Verhoeven probably deserves a film in the Canon, right? I would have to think Robocop would make it, but Total Recall is in some ways more enjoyable. Share this post Link to post
RobertBoberts 62 Posted July 10, 2016 Repo Man, Robocop and Brazil are all Canon worthy. Better Off Dead and Three O'clock High would be a fun versus. Share this post Link to post
Stickman Cinema 28 Posted July 11, 2016 Verhoeven probably deserves a film in the Canon, right? Showgirls. Â Â ...ok no, but seriously it should be Robocop. Share this post Link to post
FredrickMaxwell 2 Posted July 11, 2016 I would have to pick 1989's TETSUO: THE IRON MAN. 1 Share this post Link to post
j_scanlon 59 Posted July 11, 2016 Â Showgirls. Â Â ...ok no, but seriously it should be Robocop. Â Showgirls has got a subtle bump in reputation in recent years. Itd make for a great episode Share this post Link to post
Head Spin 112 Posted July 11, 2016 I'd pick Django. I'm not sure it's good enough to make it into the Canon, but it's a beautiful movie made entirely out of ugliness. And Franco Nero's eyes. It's the western I most often revisit. Â It's probablyThe Mercenary that would be the real Canon candidate for Sergio Corbucci. Share this post Link to post
giblet.kittensoup 2 Posted July 12, 2016 I guess after listening to this week's episode, I couldn't help but think of my own love for the Return of the Living Dead. Probably not canon, but having never seen Re-Animator before I was also kind of confused as to why it was being considered. Â I'd take Return of the Living Dead over Re-Animator any day. Love it. Can't wait for the upcoming BR re-release. Share this post Link to post
HoldenMartinson 221 Posted July 12, 2016 Showgirls has got a subtle bump in reputation in recent years. Itd make for a great episode Showgirls versus Heaven's Gate. Give it a few years, but that could make for an interesting episode. Share this post Link to post
groovy-guy 24 Posted July 15, 2016 having recently rewatched harmony korine's TRASH HUMPERS i think there is an (indulgent) argument for its canonicity that goes something like [retro format], [guerrilla production], [gothic americana], [people humping trash] Share this post Link to post
RobertBoberts 62 Posted July 15, 2016 Â Â I'd take Return of the Living Dead over Re-Animator any day. Love it. Can't wait for the upcoming BR re-release. Â Is there something different about the rerelease? My library has had it on Blu ray for awhile. Share this post Link to post
RyanEdwardBaellCasto 2 Posted July 16, 2016 Some great answers here. Probably the episode that would get me most excited would be When Harry Met Sally. I adore every aspect of it. Blows me away, truly. It's a classic so maybe not an "indulgence pick". But if we want more comedies in here WHMS is a goodie. Â Also would love more attention thrown to great foreign cinema. Someone mentioned Persona - absolutely! Also maybe a Kurosawa entry or Raise the Red alantern or In The Mood For Love, or something. Granted, those episodes may not create as many listens/downloads. 1 Share this post Link to post

Christopher Doyle's cinematography alone is canon-worthy. The fact that there's an amazing film within those frames helps quite a bit, though. Share this post Link to post
giblet.kittensoup 2 Posted July 16, 2016 Is there something different about the rerelease? My library has had it on Blu ray for awhile. Â It's a new 2K scan of the interpositive so it should be a better release than the dreck that MGM sent out. Scream/Shout are pretty consistent in the quality of what they put out. Details here: Â http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=18798 Share this post Link to post

CarlosFerreira 20 Posted July 20, 2016 Repo Man  Absolutely. As indulgences go, it's Repo Man all the way.  A couple more:  Ghost in the Shell American Psycho Share this post Link to post

AlexChristianLovendahl 34 Posted July 22, 2016 I'd pick Django. I'm not sure it's good enough to make it into the Canon, but it's a beautiful movie made entirely out of ugliness. And Franco Nero's eyes. It's the western I most often revisit. This is a great indulgence answer because it's a near-forgotten western, probably most popular now for inspiring Tarantino, but it is quite a good movie, and it's full of details that make it at least up for discussion. And, man, that theme song is electrifying. 1 Share this post Link to post

And, man, that theme song is electrifying. Â I'm glad you feel that way! That theme is really GOAT-level. Canon-worthy might be a stretch, but that's one where if there was an episode on it I would write about it for hours in its defense. I'd die on that hill, and maybe even in that film's horrible quicksand river. Â If anyone enjoys a fantastic, stylish spaghetti western, make sure you see Django. Share this post Link to post
petesgotaces 0 Posted July 25, 2016 Terminator 1 vs 2 would be a cool versus.  A Clockwork Orange Donnie Darko The Great Escape Full Metal Jacket The Good, The Bad and The Ugly  All should be considered canon worthy. Share this post Link to post

AlexChristianLovendahl 34 Posted July 25, 2016 My Indulgence Picks? Oooph... well... Quadrophenia Tommy Jon Waters'/Pink Floyd's The Wall Frozen Melancholia Phantom of the Paradise The Crow Harold & Maude Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai Fairly confident this is the half of your list that could be called indulgence picks; Treasure of the Sierra Madre is AFI Top 100 royalty, and Seven Samurai makes most global top ten lists! Truthfully, I think the only one of these that isn't almost a gimme eventual episode is Quadrophenia, just because Tommy and The Wall have become more popular classic rock, "rock opera" movies. I also kind wish it were John Waters' The Wall and not Roger Waters; Divine as Mother could be spectacular! Share this post Link to post
