My brain somehow managed to merge this movie with Hope Floats, I thought it was Harry Connick Jr as Josh Lucas's character in this one. -
The best thing about that documentary is that he equated drunk assholes yelling at stand-ups to critics listing legitimate grievances about his shitty movies. He even frames Uwe Boll as some kind hero for challenging random internet critics to a fight.

Not only are there people who wouldn't have empathy until McConaughey pointed it out, there are people who would continue to not have empathy even after he pointed it out. One of many reasons this would be a thoroughly depressing choice for them to cover this movie on this podcast, despite its mixed reviews. -
They also seemed to pretty blatantly copy the set design of the debate chamber off of the similar room in The Neverending Story.

Oldman's performance is so wildly over the top I could easily be convinced that Nicolas Cage watched this movie before he did Bad Lieutenant for inspiration. -
I will say I love the fact that they made Marlon Wayans the damsel in distress in the end when it would have been much more cliche to have it had been Stacey Dash.

I agree that this movie is insanity start to finish. It's definitely a classic that hasn't stood the test of time well. I also think that unfortunately this movie suffers from the same problem as My Father, The Hero, in that the way these movies exploited both Natalie Portman and Katherine Heigl as child actresses is incredibly depressing and would make for a bummer of a podcast. -
Thomas Jane was blowing up for a bit earlier in his career. It's hilarious that being a diva on the set of The Punisher is how he decided to shit tank his career. He was great on The Expanse though. Cusack clearly suffers from Jaime Kennedy syndrome where anyone who criticizes the garbage their in, they just discount it to haters "not understanding their art".

I'm actually shocked they picked this one, it's such a weird, obscure movie. The puppet they used for this almost looks like they repurposed a gelfling puppet from Dark Crystal.

Ricochet, Raising Cain, Buckaroo, Harry and The Hendersons, Cliffhanger would all be amazing episodes.

I'd completely forgotten about Stallone's cast gun. Those silenced shots are hilarious though, they sound like shots from an airsoft rifle. I also love that Banderas has what appears to be the tiniest sniper rifle ever made.

They have to do this movie at some point. It's easily one of my favorite Banderas roles, and it also has some delightfully terrible attempts at portraying hacking.
