The action pairing no one was waiting for is finally here: Robert De Niro and John Travolta play military veterans bent on killing each other in the woods! John Travolta combines a terrible accent with terrible facial hair to play a Serbian bent on getting revenge on De Niro, an American veteran. According to the movie's synopsis, the phrase "the purest form of war is one-on-one" is an age-old adage.... and this film proves it!

Also, a kinda-sorta remake in everything but name to 1981's 'Death Hunt,' starring Charles Bronson and Lee Marvin. Except, you know, the leads in 'Death Hunt' could kick all our collective asses even now rather than sicking Scientology or awkward stares at us.

i wanna believe that John Travolta is making a series of unconnected movies into a trilogy (like the Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy), defined by his odd hair...The Insane Hair Trilogy if you will:

1) "Secret Agent" Charlie Wax in From Paris with Love...

2) Captain Chin Strap in Killing Season

What about his "Swordfish" get-up?

Which one, the slicked back nouveau mullet or the platinum blond shave at the end of the movie?

Wow this looks really low budget straight to DVD level. And this reminds of "The Challenge" starring Darren McGavin as a US soldier chosen to fight a soldier from an unnamed Asian country to the death in order to avert war between the two nations.

starting: Robert De Niro, John Travolta

I think when John Travoita dies his family should donate his hair to a museum. wow what a great russion accent. I think we've got our next Travolta movie to do.

I already miss last year in "Silver Linings Playbook" when De Niro busted out his "I give a fuck about the movie I'm making" accent for like the first time in forever.

You didn't see Silver Linings Playbook? that was a good movie for a oscar film.

I did see it, and what I guess I was trying to say was that it was nice to see a movie where De Niro gave a shit, which doesn't happen a lot these days. It already seems so long ago, late 2012...

he's at that age now that prevents him from choosing his roles anymore. he ether does those Fockers movies or Red Lights type movies. Not the real method acting we once known him for. but that's what happens when your a old lead actor. you get the dad, grandfrather roles. sean connery michael caine type role.

THis needs to be updated now..

Does anyone seriously have hair like Travolta in this?! The beard and hair line is absurd.

Cat & Beard. is there really such a thing as a bad Robert De Niro movie. I mean even his worst movies he is alwasy giving something to the role. I do admit as he's gotten older he's toned down the creativeness in the roles he plays but he's Robert De Niro. btw you know that movie Being John Malkovich. well I would love to be Robert De Niro for one day, just one day. "I am watching you..." YOU talking to me" yes sir this is star bucks how can I take your order..

BTW I would love to have been a extra on the set of this movie watching Roberts look on his face the day John Travolta walks on set with that hair. " are you fing kidding me!

That is a fair point, but I think Michael Caine has committed himself far better in his senior years than De Niro has (appropriate, since Caine spent his middle years wading in fields of crap.... an example of which can be seen in episode 44 of THIS VERY PODCAST!). Plus, it's not like De Niro has to embarrass himself with movies like this. Unless he has money trouble, I don't know why he doesn't just let the "greatest actor of his generation"* praise wash over him and do the occasional 'Silver Linings Playbook' when it comes along. I know it's hard to judge a film's future quality just from it's script, but Jesus, some of the choices he makes...

*I'm not saying he is, just that a lot of people refer to him as such.

It's even worse for lady actors, just saying.

But yeah, look at Bruce Willis for another example. Not that he's a great actor, but it seems like he'll do any project that his agent casually mentions over the phone. I think these people aren't really aware or even care much about making

(!) anymore -- it's their job, it's what they've been doing for several decades. Why quit? While some people look forward to retiring from their respective fields, there's many who would rather keep punching in and out.

This isn't a good movie, but I don't know if its "HDTGM" bad. Its really just kind of boring and tepid. Maybe the funnest part of the movie is Travolta's accent.

The outro music over the Appalachian woodland scenes is really good, though. Very relaxing.

I have to agree with you Wien, I was sold on this movie based on John Travolta's hair action. but when I got around to watching this movie it turned out to be a really boring long film. Sorry about that everyone.

Robert De Niro. John Travolta. How bad could it be? Movie poster tag line: "The purest form of war is one on one." Ok, that bad.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killing_Season_(film)

"In Belgrade, Serbia, former Scorpions soldier Emil Kovač (Travolta) meets his informant to retrieve a file on American military veteran and former NATO operative Colonel Benjamin Ford (De Niro). Ford has fled to a cabin retreat somewhere in the Appalachian Mountains, to forget the war. Now a recluse, he meets Kovač, posing as a European tourist, during a hunting trip. The two men become friendly, until Kovač reveals his true identity. Intent on revenge, he initiates a gory game of cat-and-mouse with Ford. The latter is badly injured but is quick to rebound. After a showdown, Kovač is overpowered by Ford. They reach a peaceful compromise, however, after understanding each other's predicament. Kovač quietly returns to Serbia, while Ford visits his son, to make up for missing his grandson's baptism."
