Episode 65 — Howard the Duck: LIVE!

Recommended Posts

Did anyone catch Greg Proops cameo in the diner scene?!? I was trying to find him but I didn't see him. He said he was an extra in that scene in DLM and I think he also said it in one of his Smartest Man eps.

For anyone who didn't get a chance to watch the whole movie, this video (if you can excuse the stupid editing) includes most of the more fucked up moments that were discussed...

I like at the end of the movie, the person who made this writes, "Duck/human sex is illegal and wrong."

I totally forgot about that bit of Proops trivia!

That means Greg has been involved with THREE Lucasfilm Studio productions, two of which had speaking roles:

1- Background actor in Howard the Duck

2- One half of Fode the Podrace announcer in Episode I

3- Tal Merrik in two episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Yay Greg! (just in general, Yay Greg! Proops rules!)

I kinda wish there had been a scene of duck-on-duck sex in this movie. I mean, you're kinda setting it up, if you chose to show duck boobies and duck soft-core porn.

I couldn't hear what the audience member said at 1:18 that everyone went nuts for. I listened 3x but couldn't hear it and they didn't repeat it, can anyone tell me what it was?

Learning that Pixar was basically created as a result of this film blew my mind today.

Let's see: Lasers are energy. Energy is mass equivalent. Mass warps space. And then a miracle happens: Wormhole! Howard sucked to Earth. Boom: Science!

Also, if you're ever randomly sucked to another planet, of course you'd see if you can fly: How do you know you're not Superman there if you don't try it at least once?

With all this talk about Howard and sexy ducks, I keep mistaking this for an episode of Who Charted.

Why you didn't talk about this movie in episode #1 (live or otherwise) is a mystery.

Man, this was so great. It didn't occur to me until the episode started, but Kristen is the perfect guest for this show, because when she gets excited and talks about something funny, it's pretty much the most delightful thing in the world.

The flying clip/mic drop was a top 5 all-time HDTGM moment.

I don't doubt that this movie deserves every bit of scorn that everyone in the show and thread has heaped on it, but I do feel like a lot of the creative failures are being ascribed to executive producer George Lucas, as if he was the writer or director. It sounded like they might have had some solid info that he was pretty hands-on, but still.

Hands down the best episode of this podcast in months. I couldn't breathe for laughing so hard when June yelled "Right there! Right FUCKING THERE!"

I haven't listened yet although I want to -- gonna attempt the movie tonight. Buuut...

After having the forum freaking out about the FYI voting and conspiracy theories, I just wanted to say THANK YOU to HDTGM and everyone behind them and the people who work on the various websites for giving us such wonderful FREE entertainment and a place to celebrate it with each other. If I could marry this podcast, I would (polygamy is still unfortunately illegal in Oregon).

THANK YOU.

I was at Largo for this one. Best show, of any kind, that I've seen in a long time. It was one of those shows where I'd miss jokes because I was laughing so much. Explanation hope was the greatest thing I've heard. Then to see Jason stand up, walk across the stage, and call the explanation hoper a dummy...priceless. If you are in New York, buy your tickets now.

As a comic book nerd, I just want everybody to understand what Howard The Duck was in the comics.

He was a perpetually angry, cigar smoking, hard drinking smart ass. An easy comparison would be Lewis Black.
