teedle 60 Posted July 26, 2014 they havent done this movie yet have they? jesus . . . Â i just watched all three of the mad max movies and thunderdome is everything that is wrong with 80s movies. Â This movie is pure shit. and what's astonishing is the rotten tomatoes score: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/mad_max_beyond_thunderdome/ Â is everyone in on a prank? what am i missing? this is the worst movie haha . . . seanotron 2307 Posted July 27, 2014 This movie was everything that was right about 80's action movies. 2 Share this post Link to post
jarrycanada 2483 Posted July 27, 2014 I do have to dare say it that thunderdome is the weaker mad max movie. but it still is a good movie when you compare it to some of todays big action films. I think we should wait and see how bad or good the new mad max movie's are first. one sure thing it's got no tina turner in it. RyanSz 3140 Posted July 27, 2014 Considering the trailer came out this weekend, I have high hopes for it being full of crazy action. I loved Thunderdome as it was action packed like Road Warrior and the actual Thunderdome fight scene was pretty creative. For me I always felt the first Mad Max was the weakest of the trilogy, which isn't saying much as it's a pretty good movie, it's just that it's slower paced than the other two and is more of a revenge film than an action movie, plus Gibson was still fleshing out the character in that movie. Also, Tina Turner's getup in this film holds a funny place in my heart after going to a strip club a few years ago when the guest dancer/porn star came out dancing dressed up almost exactly like her to "The Final Countdown" (it was New Year's Weekend). PlanBFromOuterSpace 3138 Posted July 28, 2014 I like how if you look at the "Mad Max" Blu-Ray box set, it's like "Mad Max" gets a commentary and lots of extras and "Road Warrior" gets a lot of extras, but when it gets to "Beyond Thunderdome", all it really has to say is "Well...hey, it's on Blu-Ray, right?!". jarrycanada 2483 Posted July 28, 2014 PlanBFromOuterSpace - for god sake please tell me you get the tina turner music video on the blu-ray set? I mean when you think of madmax the first thing that comes to mind is we don't need another hero music video. that's a fucking classic, I tell yeah. Share this post Link to post
teedle 60 Posted July 28, 2014 i just can't get behind the movie like you people can i guess. the second half basically turned into a weird kids movie(just tons of bad jokes and unlikable nonsense). Â also if anyone loves thunderdome and has not seen it in a very long time: i recommend re-watching it now that you're older and smarter before passing judgement. Share this post Link to post
seanotron 2307 Posted July 28, 2014 I'm not saying it's not a crazy movie, or even that it couldn't work for the show. I just think you'd have to do it in the style of Crank or Punisher, where you're basically talking about how balls-to-the-wall it all is. I just know every time I see it I have a good time. Quasar Sniffer 4174 Posted July 28, 2014 I fall somewhere in the middle. It’s ridiculous, out-there, and enjoyable like the previous Mad Max films, but I feel it’s also the weakest. It’s pretty inconsistent in both tone and pacing, especially when the little kids get involved, but the THUNDERDOME sequences are amazing. Plus, I like Tina Turner as a villain, especially since it’s such a different direction than Lord Humongous. Not the best example of 80s action, but definitely not the worst either. It could have used more of the insane misanthropy of the previous films, but that got sacrificed for the sake of franchise marketability. It got…. Ewoked, I guess.  Still, would it make a good episode of HDTGM? Probably. 1 Share this post Link to post
seanotron 2307 Posted July 28, 2014 See, I'm actually going to side with Ryan and say I think the first is actually the one I find least re-watchable. It probably comes down to whether you prefer Mad Max as this INCREDIBLY dark, bleak dystopia with plenty of rape & murder or whether you prefer it as essentially a sci-fi western. The first one is really the outlier if you prefer the latter. For example, I think Max's family being killed works better as exposition/backstory than as a major plot point. Plus the first one is kind of a half-step toward dystopia, since there's still essentially a functioning government and Max is basically a police officer. I prefer the 'wild west' aspects of the latter stories, where everyone is just out on their own. Â Plus I kind of like to fanfic the idea that Tina Turner is actually playing herself in Thunderdome, and the people made her their leader because she was famous. 1 Share this post Link to post
jarrycanada 2483 Posted July 30, 2014 Rotton tomatoes scores.  Madmax 95%  Road Warrior 100%  Thunderdome 81%  IMDB:  Madmax 7.0  Road Warrior 7.6 ? WHAT THE FUCK!  Thunderdome 6.1  Well once again, I guess my job here is done. I've manage to prove nothing. I going back to practicing my break dancing moves then, I almost got that move down. that one can be very tricky. I guess I am showing my age is all. because I remember that madmax movie blowing my mind. but that was back in the days of beta tape and rental shops.. Strange things are afoot at the circle K! 1 Share this post Link to post
RyanSz 3140 Posted July 31, 2014 I never trust the IMDB ratings as that sight has basically become a haven of trolls/haters and film school snobs. I'm amazed that this forum hasn't been overrun by them after these last few years. 2 Share this post Link to post
jarrycanada 2483 Posted July 31, 2014 Most of the time the IMDB site /app is spot on. I Find that on Rotton tomatoes scores to be wrong most of the time but not here. you can't bank on any of them.. just because a movie is rated 8% on IMDB doesn't mean it's going to be good. Â BTW. I have every movie I ever own listed in IMDB, Ryan Sz. or ever watched. almost every movie. I use that app a lot to keep track of my films. Share this post Link to post
RyanSz 3140 Posted August 1, 2014 I just an excel sheet for the movies I own, but that's just the librarian in me. Share this post Link to post
JamesBarrett 3 Posted June 19, 2015 Bump: Â To the posters above me who said this is a good movie you are crazy. This movie is the Indiana Jones IV/ Star Trek V of the Mad Max series. The biggest problem with this movie was that it took two really great movie ideas, cut them in half, then spliced the front half of one to the back half of the other to make one piece of shit. Â The turn where it goes from Barter Town to Lil' Lamplight is a huge wtf shift. 2 Share this post Link to post

It's not as good as Road Warrior or Fury Road and it has some plot structure issues, but it's still got great stuff in it. The Mad Max series has thankfully been spared a Star Trek V. Just watched the whole original trilogy because the gas shortages in our part of the country have made them extra-relevant. Wife cannot believe that HDTGM hasn't done it yet. I didn't dislike it quite as much as she did, but I think the show should do it. I'd describe it as "The Spider-Man 3 of the series." Some lowlights that suggest it's HDTGM-worthy: -About 30 minutes in the middle of it feel like early test footage of the Lost Boys in Hook or something. -The actual Thunderdome gets like one scene. I was fully expecting it to return for the climax or something, -Max wanders around through the desert wearing tons of black leather to the point of passing out and never even seems to realize that he can shed it. -A whole bunch of the kids just run off to Bartertown and Max goes after them, ostensibly to bring them back, but then suddenly without explanation goes with their plan to kidnap the dwarf to the point of killing several people. -Said dwarf is supposed to be some kind of genius but can't even speak in anything remotely resembling whole sentences. -An awful lot of "blink and you won't know what's going on" moments. -Like two scenes of actual driving action in this movie.
