screa2008 13 Posted July 23, 2016 I think that they touched upon the fact that it's ridiculous that the Shadow needs a disguise in the episode, but I'm curious why when Lamont puts on that red scarf his face changes entirely! It's like Alec Baldwin turns into a fatter Billy Baldwin, a.k.a. Daniel Baldwin... Share this post Link to post
screa2008 13 Posted July 23, 2016 Also, in every scene with Penelope Ann Miller, if you imagine Alec Baldwin as the scout leader from SNL it's 1000 times creepier (and the Kenny G-esque score makes more sense...) Share this post Link to post
Sun Tzu Said That 32 Posted July 23, 2016 The only way having a disguise makes sense at all is if it's too much exertion on Lamont to maintain his mind-clouding abilities for too long. After the opening fight as The Shadow, he looks worn out. That could have been from his powers or it could have been from beating up some gangsters in front of an innocent mat painting. If there was ever a mention of the toll his powers might take on Lamont, it would have helped explain why he was caught so ridiculously easy and might have actually given his fight scenes some real stakes and tension. RyanSz 3140 Posted July 24, 2016 Question: Â I don't know if this was brought up or I just blanked it out, but why does Baldwin need the disguise when he can mind trick people in either not seeing him or completely forgetting about him? Share this post Link to post

DieFledermaus 12 Posted July 24, 2016 Lamont's uncle says "after the war, you disappeared for 7 years and i said nothing". the war has to be world war1 which ended in 1919. so the movie takes place after that, but before the beginning of the great depression in 1929. my theory is that after the war, Lamont is feels so guilty of watching his friends die, and his love for killing that he cant return home. instead he travels to tibet to become a warlord. this movie must take place between 1926 and 1929. therefore Shiwan must have trained under Tulku durring these years. he kills his master before finishing his training having to rely on outside sources of power like his ancestors burial casket and tibetan tapestries to "give him a boost". 4 Share this post Link to post
ThatGermanDude 0 Posted July 24, 2016 The whole idea that Shiwan is the last relative of Genghis Khan is pretty funny, because Genghis Khan actually has one of the biggest lineages in the world. 0.5% in the world are related to him. That's 16 million people. So Shiwan isn't special at all. Â http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/gnxp/2010/08/1-in-200-men-direct-descendants-of-genghis-khan/#.V5TlJuhCRSA Share this post Link to post

It's also possible that his training was completed just fine, but the act of clouding minds puts considerable strain on the user. Shiwan just found a way to recharge his batteries. This would explain Lamont only using his abilities when absolutely necessary and relying on a disguise when he's The Shadow. The movie definitely gives you the impression that Shiwan is much more knowledgeable about these powers than Lamont is.  It would be interesting if Lamont only survived the war due to his latent psychic abilities and had to watch every "normal" comrade around him dying in the course of battle. Wondering why you were the only one who never seemed to be shot, much less seen by the enemy while everyone else got mowed down is enough to make anyone run off to Tibet. Share this post Link to post

Prezzydent 11 Posted July 24, 2016 First time poster here, I'm just not much of a forum guy but love bad movies and pinball machines. Â A peripheral aspect of this movie is that the pinball machine is considered one of the best and most rewarding ever made and has some very cool/unique features. One of the only things that hurts the desirability of the machine is the property, which people see as a bad movie. Unsurprisingly this is exactly the same with the Congo pinball machine. Last Action Hero and Demolition Man are still two of my favorite. 2 Share this post Link to post

I know there was a Playboy machine and there may have been a Penthouse one but I've only seen digital versions online so it may just be a video game. I can't remember but when I took the tour of the Moonlite Bunny Ranch I believe that they had a custom pinball machine dedicated to Ron Jeremy, as he has a permanent bungalow residence there for whenever he's near Reno.  As for their being a Shadow pinball machine, of course there was as since it was a media property released in the 90s it had a pinball machine as well as a toy line from Kenner. I mean who could forget the Philadelphia line of toys and games? 1 Share this post Link to post

LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!  mind you we may already have a winnner!  Okay the Royal Rumble one is FANTASTIC, great mechanics and fun to play. By far the worst I've ever played, this one at the Las Vegas Pinball Hall of Fame, is Orbiter 1. The playing field is the bumpy surface that is supposed to be a distant planet and the ball is a landing satellite/drone, the game fucking sucks. 3 Share this post Link to post

Maverick is just mediocre if I remember correctly. Also, it's not that they thought it was a huge draw but more that there were four major pinball companies operating in the 1990s and after a decade of slow sales the late 80s saw a pinball renaissance. Then Addams Family hit as the most successful machine of all time, followed by Twilight Zone as the second. This cemented that IP mattered and to a degree meant you had free advertising to coincide with the movie as well as not having to design a theme. Add to the fact the games were developed and made concurrently with the film IP and usually released within 6 months of the theatrical debut for maximum impact and you have a game made by people who have never seen the movie let alone know how successful it will be. 1 Share this post Link to post

Pinball machines were actually great for marketing in comparison to video games, which almost always sucked ass. The difference between the two was with video games a publisher was usually cannibalizing a previous game and rushed it to market to meet the release of the movie, usually with disastrous results. Pinball machines on the other hand, required only a small amount of animation on-screen, a couple different pieces of art needing to be made for the back wall and the main play field. Then you add in a constant stream of fifty cents in from kids every day at multiple locations, and you had yourself a money maker. The only issue pinball makers really had to worry about were places the ball could get stuck and causing a tilt. Share this post Link to post
