It's a Christmas movie with Kirk Cameron's name IN THE TITLE, and from the trailer, it looks like it was written by the copy editors who create the "War on Christmas" news packages for The O'Reilly Factor every December. So yeah, a fucking nightmare.

Honestly I hope they don't do this one. I don't feel like sitting through a propaganda film.

That can't be real, can it? I mean, ya Kirk Cameron is a Certified Grade A dumb-dumb...but thats incredibly bad even by his standards (it honestly makes Fireproof look straight up deep and well acted.)

Is that like a joke trailer he made for like April Fools day or something? (Even his voice over was feeling like it was trying for goofiness in parts, or maybe his smugness just sounds goofy to me, which is pretty likely.)

Maybe he's just not trying anymore? Like really, why would you bother, just put whatever dreck you can squeeze into a camera on the screen and the same people who bought Fireproof, or Monumental or any of the other recent crap based off a right wing chain-email, will line up to buy it. He must know he has no hope of reaching any new audience, and so is in full on pander mode, trying to do the least amount of effort because he knows it will have the same amount of gain?

Or maybe he knows and acknowledges he's bad, even in the eyes of his target audience, and is trying to get 'in' on the joke, which never goes well (i.e. Birdemic 2). Is he trying to make this intentionally bad because he heard about Sharknado and thought he could make his crappy movie with its crappy message a thing?

I'm genuinely confused by this movie, especially the trailer...I agree I don't want to see it done for the show...but I have questions.

"lets put the Christ back in Christmas". I don't think there hasn't been a Christmas here in my Household

that his name "Christ" hasn't been some how mentioned. LOL maybe not in a good way... ;) a very irish Christmas. btw I am not sure i want to watch this movie. I think I would rather have perfectly good teeth pulled first. I have to dare say it, this is no Trapped in Paradise .

I think this movie is appealing to the people who believe there is a "War on Christmas," you know, the same kind of person who refuses to believe in climate change or, Jesus Christ, fucking Evolution for that matter. You have to expect a certain amount of self-delusion. That's kind of why I want this movie done; it's part crass commercialism to a specific target audience and part messianic egomania.

Without a doubt it's going to be preachy and full of ignorance.

So we have Ray Comfort AKA "banana man", we have that other "dinosaurs are dragons!" weirdo AND of course crazy person extraordinaire Kirk Cameron. Only thing that photo is missing is a Hovind to make the quartet of terrible complete.

I think that this movie is like that Tom Cruise scientology video that leaked a few years ago or Big Money Rustlaz/Hustlaz in that it's meant for a very specific sub-culture. I think it's easy to stand outside of these subcultures and mock it, but doing so is unfulfilling and advances nothing of substance.

I think considering the amount of influence this kind of religious conservatism has on culture, politics, and religion in America itself, it is ripe for mockery. The size and scale of the ultra-right wing target audience of looney toons makes it far more than a subculture. These people are nuts so the best thing to do is laugh at them. I understand not wanting a HDTGM podcast about it, for sure, but maybe it's because I've always been a religious person that this brand of intolerance strikes me as personally reprehensible and therefore deserving of making it the focus of jokes.

...but I would also be willing to make fun of Big Money Rustlas... which is a considerably less weighty subject (unless we're talking about Violent J.... ZING!). So maybe I am full of shit? I dunno. I just know this movie looks bad.

The main issue, is apparently (according to sites that pander to the same people this movie does), this is supposed to be a comedy...which just adds another layer of horribleness, as in addition to it being an all around crappy movie, it's a failed comedy.

Oh, also, the main character's name is "Christian White"...seriously, god damn this movie.

My problem is that I think that the general political discourse in this country is awful. I think that when it comes to politics people tend to talk past each other and attempt to shout the other side down with their group rhetoric without ever trying to put themselves in the shoes of the other side and understand where they are coming from. This movie is 100% an example of that awful political dialog, and the response is almost always also awful rhetoric of the other side. I don't want to subject myself to the "War on Christmas" bullshit, but I also don't want to subject myself to mockery of the other side that does nothing to try to understand it.

I've said something similar of Tyler Perry movies in that I don't think it would be too interesting listening to 4 white people make fun of a movie that is directed at an African American audience (and I say this as a pretty white guy). However, the difference between this and Tyler Perry movies is that you could easily find a good African American comedian to discuss the movie with, I doubt that you could find a good Christian comedian period.

Also, you do not want to watch Big Money Rustlas. It's just awful in every way possible, there is nothing fun in it, nothing worth making fun of it's just a tedious experience.

I agree with your analysis of the present political discourse, but I think that Tyler Perry movies are more of an example of crass marketing and a symptom of the lack of options for people who want to see movies not starring Pretty White Dudes. This type of film is a symptom of something more insidious and unpleasant in the cultural divide.

As for Big Money Rustlas... you're right, I do not want to actually watch it. The trailer is enough for me to giggle at it, though I do find it intriguing that there are people who see that trailer and DO want to see it. I mean... what?

I do want to see this movie done by HDTGM. Very much so. I understand that the message is infuriating, but since when is this podcast about debating ideologies? It's about laughing at bad movies, and this is officially the worst movie on IMDB. Can't we all just, regardless of our religious beliefs, sit around this holiday season and laugh at terrible racist acting?

I think they just might do this one since the Christmas episode won't be a live one.

I think I will skip watching the movie as I don't feel like sitting through right wing propaganda.

Kirk basically did the equivalent of Oprah trying to bump up her network by baiting her Twitter followers. He asked his Facebook fans to give positive reviews to his movie on Rotten Tomatoes and then had the balls to brag about it. Unfortunately, the internet being a cruel bitch, everyone else went and tanked the reviews. What's funny is the comments where people are bashing the people who gave bad reviews saying that they hate Christ or what Cameron is trying to do, when in fact the majority of people who gave the good reviews did the same thing for the opposite side.

This article has some great examples of reviews left on the various sites

The funniest thing is that, by all accounts, the poster has more action than most of the movie. It's a movie mostly set in a car parked in a driveway; it's like the lazy version of "Locke."

I think that's why it would be a bad movie for them to do, since it's basically a glorified sermon with no production.

Having now watched the trailer it seems like someone said "what if I made Silent Night, Deadly Night a Christian movie and took out some of the killing?"

This Would be THE best how did this get made.

Kirk Cameron's "Saving Christmas" is IMDB's worst movie of all time.

http://www.imdb.com/chart/bottom

It is amazing... Words can not describe this kind of movie. However, I believe the best person to talk about it would be Brad Jones (The Cinema Snob)http://www.thecinemasnob.com/

He already did a hilarious review of it. http://www.thecinemasnob.com/midnight-screenings/midnight-screenings-kirk-camerons-saving-christmas

He's already a big fan of HDTGM and I thought he would be a funny addition.

So I'm going to watch this and report back on my findings, should I survive.

Otherwise it was nice knowing you all and I hope you'll have a great holiday and a wonderful life..lol

11:30pm

Kirt Cameron loves hot chocolate and we've got the Muslims to thank for it.

Why do I get the feeling when kirk talks about other people hating Christmas, he's really meaning Jews. just an observation of this movie.

I am beginning to relate more to Kirk's brother in law in the film. If Kirk Cameron was my brother-in-law and I had to spend Christmas with him, I wouldn't be too thrilled about it ether. Why doesn't he just drink his hot chocolate and leave everyone alone, god dam it!

I am going to go and sit in the garage with the car running, like I usually do. Why did we not get a house with no garage..

Christmas intervention time? Kirt can't mind his own business and goes looking for the brother inlaw, see what's really wrong here is that the brother in law has gone off his med's. god wants me to stop taking my meds. Because they mask the truth of Christmas.

12 am to 1 am, now it's getting like the tv show 24.

Kirk Cameron's explanation of Jesus's birth makes no sense to me. so I've got to re-watch it. he's really got a way of talking, and turning truths and manipulating them into his believes.

Pretty sure the manger was made out of shit brick, like most builds in the middle east country side are. but what ever. For me that's what I saw when I was in Egypt heading to Vally of kings years ago, Carry on.

Only 30 mins into this. Kirk's talking about trees lots in the car, that carbon dioxide got to be kicking in anytime soon now. I am so hoping so.

42min mark story of Santa Claus is amazing. Just hope Kirk and his brother-in-law don't freeze to death in their SUV before the story gets finished. That would be a real tragedy.. Mind you, that would really happen if this was in Canada.

So it looks like according to Kirk Cameron, Santa Claus was a lot like Hulk Hogan. Your welcome brother! and he is Sinterklaas. looks like he's going with the Dutch version of Christmas. this is so worth renting and fast forwarding just for that scene alone.

20znpcm.jpg

Kirk coaches the brother-in-law back into the house and his explanation about what Christmas presents, nutcrackers and what it's all about is amazing work of art. now this is the second best part of the movie, as it turns into like

and it's all just mind-blowingly crazy. he is making all of these connections with Christmas that are just simply not there. he over analyzing everything as having deep meaning when there really isn't simply anything there.. at this point I feel like saying this to
.

Then Andre kicks it in the house some hip hop style Christmas tunes. That's just what this movie needed, let the only annoying black guy sing. On a sad note related to Andre was picked up for possession of a illegal narcotic on his way home and is now facing a ten years in prison. he was also charged with impersonation of a Rap hiphop artist.

2i2bxgy.jpg

Kurt's Brother-in-law Steve and wife got divorced shortly after Christmas.. They got into a fight about Easter and that was just too much for her.

I'm going to bed...it's 1:30am Thank god this is over.

On a finial thought, Jerry springier style. if your biggest problem this Christmas is that you feel it's too commercialize and that it's lost it's true meaning, if that's your biggest problem this holiday season. then sit down, drink your hot chocolate and then leave. don't wounder around my house looking for me. I am just where i want to be.. and don't be afraid to say Marry fringing Christmas, regardless of offending someone else. just remember it's a statutory holiday and they are celebrating it, if they like it or not. I kid.

I am sorry this was so long. but for me this movie was alot of fun to watch and most likely is the most bat shit crazy Christmas movie i've ever seen. the trailer is nothing like what the film is about. it's misleading if anything. don't feel bad about giving kirk money to make movies think of it as investing in a crazy mans dreams to make shit films.

oof. I just watched this and it was bad. I think I cringed the whole time through it, especially that dance scene at the end.

Santa was a hero for beating the shit out of someone. How very...Christ-like of him? The best part about this movie is that it's short.
