MarcNix 1 Posted November 16, 2014 It's probably old, but I'll try posting this in a nice way before somebody snarks out about it-- Paul mentioned, in response to Quasar Sniffer's celebration of director Bob Clark's absolutely insane filmography, that he would love to hear what Bob Clark's thoughts would be on Rhinestone and why it is not available. I too would love to hear Bob Clark's thoughts... but mostly I'd love to hear them because poor Bob Clark passed away in 2007 after a fatal car crash. The world seems like it would have been better if Mr. Clark were here or somewhere to give those thoughts. Besides the hits already mentioned, BTW, Bob Clark also directed the Gene Hackman/Dan Aykroyd buddy-cop comedy Loose Cannons about mismatched cops chasing down a porno movie of Adolph Hitler. He had a career full of films, good and bad, that asked the question, "How Did This Get Made?" 1 Share this post Link to post
Quasar Sniffer 4174 Posted November 16, 2014 Yeesh, you could probably have a serialized podcast asking "How Did This Get Made?" for all of Bab Clark's movies, both good and bad. As for Loose Cannons, from this trailer, it seems that "mismatched cops" means "Gene Hackman playing Grumpy Gene Hackman as Dan Aykroyd does the most tired impressions you can imagine": But yes, it would be great to still have him around, both as a potential guest and because it is sad that he died. 1 Share this post Link to post

Quasar Sniffer 4174 Posted November 17, 2014 If I could get back to the immortal Ms. Dolly Parton for a moment, I ended up watching Straight Talk because of this podcast. Although it is not as good as 9 to 5, it still provides more evidence of Dolly's charm and charisma. She plays basically the same character as she does in Rhinestone, just with a talent for communicating with people rather than music. Also, Michael Madsen is a greasy sleazeball, Griffen Dunne is harried, and James Woods is untrustworthy. Anyway, the movie was released in 1992 and it ends with Dolly taking a call from a transgender man asking to see if he should go ahead with the sex change surgery. Because Dolly is a source of pure positivity and well-wishes in the Universe, she proceeds to congratulate the caller and dishes out fashion tips. This was in 1992, wayyy before transgendered people were even in the GLTB conversation on a national level, when their major cultural presence was as being presented as freaks and weirdos on daytime talk shows. Here was Dolly, saying if it makes you feel like yourself, then do it and good luck. 10/10 for Dolly. 2 Share this post Link to post
PlanBFromOuterSpace 3138 Posted November 17, 2014 Also, Michael Madsen is a greasy sleazeball, Griffen Dunne is harried, and James Woods is untrustworthy. So basically, it was like no one even HAD to try in this movie? 1 Share this post Link to post
