LiquidSnape 0 Posted October 29, 2011 I would love to see an episode for this movie. Share this post Link to post
HipGuide 196 Posted March 19, 2013 Holy crap. This would be incredible. Mantzoukas may spotaneously combust during this,. 3 Share this post Link to post
seanotron 2307 Posted March 19, 2013 It is notoriously awful, but it's basically just a porn (hell, it was made by Penthouse). It is worth pondering how they got people like Peter O'Toole, Gore Vidal and Sergei Prokofiev involved. I think everyone involved pretty much disowned it. Share this post Link to post
sillstaw 414 Posted March 20, 2013 To be honest, the stories of how this movie got made are pretty fun, especially if you like the clashing egos inherent in juicy Hollywood gossip. It's too bad that, of the three people who would have the best stories on it, two of them (producer Bob Guccione and writer Gore Vidal) are dead, and the other (Tinto Brass) might not speak English and is likely too busy making softcore porn to bother. Â On the other hand, given his career lately, I wouldn't be surprised if Malcolm McDowell did the podcast just to get a sandwich. I mean, anyone who willingly stars on "Franklin & Bash" can't be too choosy. 1 Share this post Link to post
seanotron 2307 Posted March 20, 2013 Malcolm McDowell has definitely found a second life on cable TV. Share this post Link to post
Quasar Sniffer 4174 Posted March 20, 2013 Apparently, John Gielgud had an AMAZING time making this movie... because he loved being surrounded by all the naked young men. What self-respecting lover-of-men would not? Share this post Link to post
jarrycanada 2483 Posted March 20, 2013 This movie was done in Malcolm McDowell's coke days. he got very scary looking after this movie and could not work for a long time.I am not sure is this movie still considered a x rated movie? Â at one point of the making of this movie Bob Guccione had to steal his own movie back and edit in more sex scenes to get his movie made the way he wanted it. Â I remember seeing this movie once, it isn't really all that good. if memory serves me. Â I like Malcolm McDowell's btw. But you got to becareful of his movies because he signs up for everything. I think he does Bar Mitzvahs and dinner theatre. Share this post Link to post
seanotron 2307 Posted March 20, 2013 It has actual sex in it, not just simulated scenes, so I'm fairly certain it's an NC-17 (the equivalent of the old X). 1 Share this post Link to post
jarrycanada 2483 Posted March 20, 2013 I Remember reading that Midnight cowboy got a x rating in the 1960s and in the last 10-20 years got re-rated down to a R. Not that it really needs a R Rating eather by todays standards.  http://www.amazon.co...ywords=Caligula  I thouht Caligula got re-rated too down to a R too as it's not really that pornographic next to other modern day movies. movies like the cook chef wife and her lover.  if only there was a place i could look that up... seanotron 2307 Posted March 20, 2013 The R-cut must take out the sex, because I don't see how it could be an R with actual sex in it. 1 Share this post Link to post
sillstaw 414 Posted March 21, 2013 Yeah, this movie has all sorts of different versions. Versions with more and less hardcore footage, varying lengths for different countries; there might actually be a cut that doesn't make an average person want to give up on food for a few days. Share this post Link to post
RyanSz 3140 Posted March 21, 2013 Yeah they sell the original cut in porn stores still, so that should tell you something. I also have to think that they got Helen Mirren in it because of Peter O'Toole and Malcolm. Share this post Link to post
HipGuide 196 Posted March 23, 2013 do they not do older movies because they don't have a frame of reference for them or do they think it's not their job to make light of bad movies no one's seen? Share this post Link to post
sillstaw 414 Posted March 23, 2013 do they not do older movies because they don't have a frame of reference for them or do they think it's not their job to make light of bad movies no one's seen? Â It's partly because there are just so many good ones from recently to cover, and yeah, people tend to be more familiar with the recent ones. It's similar for why they don't do more obscure stuff. seanotron 2307 Posted March 23, 2013 Yeah, I would imagine the 80s are more or less the cutoff given everyone's age. Share this post Link to post
choochoo_the_wonder_slut 740 Posted March 23, 2013 Hardcore porn producers should tackle historical epics more often. I've seen Lincoln, and it was pretty good, but it really could've used a scene where someone jacks off a horse at a Gettysburg orgy. 1 1 Share this post Link to post

KyleKnapp 5 Posted August 19, 2015 It has a male-on-male fisting scene with Malcolm McDowell featuring Helen Mirren watching! Malcolm McDowell fucking his sister! Peter O'Toole with terrible makeup, frolicking in a pool with underage boys! I mean, need I say more? You need to do this movie if for no other reason that I think it might set a new off-the-charts record for June's upset-o-meter. And I totally agree that I would be willing to bet you could get someone involved to do an interview. Even Dame Helen has gone on record as saying she thinks there's a genuinely interesting film somewhere in there. 1 Share this post Link to post

LaurenShear 0 Posted October 5, 2015 Honestly I'd give anything to hear Paul, June and Jason dissect this one. It would make such an excellent episode, and a super long one, because there's just so much there to unpack! I saw it when I was a teenager on late-night cable and it scarred the fuck out of me, but its oddity fascinated me to the point where I more recently rented the DVD from Netflix just for the commentary. Malcom McDowell's stories of the bizarre goings-on on set were so fascinating and hilarious, and if we never get a HDTGM episode about this fucked-up movie at least there'll always be the DVD commentary. But GOD do I want to hear June, Jason and Paul talk about this!!!! Share this post Link to post
RyanSz 3140 Posted October 5, 2015 I had a chance to ask McDowell about this movie recently, as he was one of the featured guests for Wizard Con here in Sacramento. Unfortunately he wasn't in the best of moods as he has no one in line waiting to get his autograph, and when I mean no one, I mean I literally walked right up to him and got an autograph and shook his hand. This was only made worse by the fact that the person whose booth he was next to, Danny Trejo's had such a long line that there was an overflow line that went on the other side of McDowell's booth, so I figured he wasn't too keen on talking about a crazy porn movie he had a role in in the 70s. 1 Share this post Link to post
Cockney Mackem 514 Posted October 5, 2015 They should totally do this, and so the full uncut version where Bob Guccione took the film off the director and inserted loads of hardcore porn into it. Share this post Link to post
