I remember when Cameron first reviewed the movie he mentioned there were only two girls in Girls! Girls! Girls! Well, need I remind us that boats and ships are female and his true love was his boat so I guess that makes it the third girl in Girls! Girls! Girls!

I liked the movie overall. It's strange but this had more of a "believable" plot for me than Blue Hawaii. I could see him working on a boat and wanting his own someday to the point of trying any moneymaking venture in order to fulfill his dream. I liked Laurel in general when she was taunting him or keeping him at bay but I didn't see her as a lover. That this was her first film wasn't obvious but showed here and there. According to the IMDB trivia Stella Stevens refused (maybe refuses?) to watch this film. I can sympathize. She was wasted and should have had the bigger part and she lost out to the ingenue.

He’s horny for that boat. It’s actually kind of crazy he gives it up in the end. Like the moral isn’t “It’s okay to accept help from time to time to achieve your dreams” but “If your dreams require someone else then it’s better to just let them go.”

My favorite line is from Laurel when she’s mocking Elvis and says, “I hope you’re not dreary about money. ‘We’ll go where I can afford or we won’t go at all!’” Um...yeah. We’re going to go where I can afford because I’m fiscally responsible.

I get that. I mean the story is rather simple and straight forward and I think when you put that aside you can focus on the weirder aspects of the story which makes it a bit more enjoyable. For example, he's like a son to TWO families? Which one do you think he loves more?

I'm sure Irene Molloy will be able to answer any questions you may have. All it will cost you is a dinner at the Harmonia Gardens.

It was weird how much more I enjoyed this on my second viewing. I even ended up bumping it up a few notches on my Elvis List. I’m also fascinated by the idea of hat stores offering to set up accounts. That is intriguing...

OMG! I forgot about the Greek family! They just disappear after the party, don’t they?

Plus, with the Greek family there is a work side to it as well. I find thunderstorms to be exciting. Walks in the rain, only if voluntary. Trying to get from the station to my house on a rainy day is annoying, but if I'm at home and it starts sure sounds like fun.

Not to be argumentative I would put the boat first and the actual girls jockeying for second.

I think it’s equal. I mean, the Chen’s took him in after his father died so I’m sure he really cares for them. BTW - does anyone else like going outside and watching thunderstorms? I love the rain (I just realized I was beginning to write the lyrics for “Escape (The Pina Colada Song”))

My only real critical note is Mr. Johnson. (Surprisingly his character was a dick. A triumph of nominative determinism.) I didn't mind the plot overall and liked his "He reminds me of me" shtick but the turn at the end was too abrupt for me. It was part of the deus ex machina thrown in near the end to bring the plot to a conclusion.

Speaking of second viewings I will do a Rabbit showing at 9 p.m. Eastern tonight if anyone missed the movie. I also am apologizing for missing Friday night.

I don’t have any particular issue with that. Ghost is in Norway too. He might be back by next week. Is the 12th cool with everyone?

On the Graceland tour they have (or had - I went in 2009) a model of that home.

I noticed that his mom died right before he moved to Germany, so I can kind of see why he wanted Priscilla to move in with him when he came back. He must have been so lonely (though that doesn't excuse praying on a teenager). I can't even imagine what it must have been like to be born to poor parents with a mother who worshipped you and then grow up to have all girls basically worshipping you. One of the things that struck me about Girls, Girls, Girls is the discomfort of just being adored for for body while no one, except for Laurel. I felt like he was pretty familiar with women hitting on him, but seemed uninterested in his own sex appeal because no one seemed to care about who he was or why the boat meant so much to him. And I see how he felt insulted by a woman buying it for him. I think the whole reason I found him charming was because he seemed so uninterested in the girls, and I got a sense of how he must have felt as an icon with women throwing themselves at him while not knowing anything about him. Fame like that makes people crazy. I recommend watching the Priscilla interview because she seemed to really see him for who he was despite how awful he was to her. That's not to excuse anything he did, but I do think she genuinely loved the man, and understood that his problematic behaviors were a result of the world he grew up in and lived in as an adult. Certainly she was too young for him, but I got the sense from her that as she grew up, she understood the situation she was in. Looking forward to the discussion of the movie itself. I've definitely learned more about Elvis by recommending it

gird your loins gentlefolk. this may be a sex-positive forum now, but it looks like we've caught something. first a spammer bounced the hayes b-day thread (wow, this forum used to actually get some traffic back in the doodle!) and now i'm getting private messages with information that is both serious and urgent. and i'm not the only one. (this thing shows who is browsing the person's profile at the same time as you for some reason? like one night werewolf for creepy forum stalkers): -- I think that's Sonic the Hedgehog's wife in which case I would surely write back, but I just don't know for sure... it might be an impersonator?

As far as Case Closed goes, this one was actually pretty good. I just can't stand the political stuff, for someone who desperately tried to come off as punk, anti-establishment, and an overall contrarian, I can't see any reason why Besser prefers Clinton. He hasn't even legitimately justified it to this day, but hey, it's his show and he can plug anything he wants. Either way, I'm backing out from listening anymore because I just know he's going to have a field day when she inevitably wins and I'm not going to enjoy listening to him gloat. Not trying to be dramatic, and I know no one gives a shit, but I just can't stand the politics segments, even if they won't be around much after the general election. At the end of the day, I've already got an improv podcast I prefer, (CBB) and I know Hot Saucerman would never take thirty minutes to shill out politicians and hire other people to sound smart for him; something Besser should realize if he genuinely wants the podcast to gain more traction.

Don't really care for Besser once again shilling Hillary and calling other people stupid based on opinion, but I know by now that's just who he is and it's what to expect. He loves to make others feel stupid which is ironic as he often says dumb things or comes off uncultured and uninformed. I don't mean to trash the guy, he can dish it so I'm sure he can take it. Above all, I feel that focusing on politics or debating is a waste of otherwise useful time for comedy. I understand that politics is a big influence for some comedy, but there's no need to focus on it when there's so much out there to do improv on. That said, this was a great ep. and an amazing lineup.

Brent Spiner probably forgot that Brent Spiner was the villain in this movie.

This is the worst movie I have ever seen and you should be made to endure the horror of watching it aswell.

Oh sweet Jesus is this flick abysmal. One of the worst things I've ever seen. I still have waking nightmares about that turtle shit.
