Haha, ok, I tried to give Gigi time to step in but she must be busy so I will go ahead with my pick, which was inspired by the recent Emmy wins for the wonderful Canadian sitcom Schitt's Creek. It's the fourth of the right honourable Lord Haden-Guest's mockumentary films, starring many of the same repertory cast as his previous and later ones, but this one is about the subculture of American folk music. It features the great Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara as Mitch and Mickey as well as Bob Balaban, Jane Lynch, Fred Willard, Parker Posey and many more. We're watching: It should be available for rent in a variety of outlets as near as I can tell and it may be on Prime as well. Enjoy!

Looking forward to rewatching it! It might be my favorite of this crew’s films (the one where they make fun of the Academy awards is my least favorite).

It is on Prime but not for free. It is on Hulu for people who subscribe to that I have this on DVD somewhere, it's a favorite though I haven't watched it in a looong time. I don't even have a DVD player anymore...

My girlfriend said she loved her new promise ring, and I reminded her not to make jokes during butt-play.

Not much discussion on this one! I was on the fence but did ultimately vote yes. My uncertainty is not about disliking how the movie was done, generally . . . I think it's a really well written and directed film. I'm just not sure it's quite an all-timer for all generations. A good deal of it feels like it's trapped in its time and I'm not sure how well its relevance will hold up as we get further away from the 80s. But on the other hand, it feels like Crowe/Heckerling are at least somewhat aware of this issue and have fashioned the movie as a kind of travelogue for high school culture of the era. As noted in the podcast episode, it already feels like a bit of a nostalgia piece even though it's contemporary to the time. So that probably helps it going forward. I remember reading that Roger Ebert review in a collection I had and wondered what movie he was watching. The movie has a lot of frank sexual talk and scenes, but it's hardly an exploitation film: the filmmakers make the effort to show the consequences and fallout from the sexual decisions the characters make, including a heavy focus on the girls' feelings. That alone puts it a cut above most of the teen sex comedies of the time.

If you give a mouse a cookie, you feed him for a day; if you teach a mouse to cookie, you feed him for a lifetime.

Holy shit (((YES))) to The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen!!! This movie is so amazingly awful that I believe it finally broke Alan Moore’s spirit. Oh, also The Spirit!
