Cam Bert 8145 Posted December 30, 2015 SPOILER ALERTS FOR EMPIRE STRIKES BACK! 2 Share this post Link to post
taylor anne photo 11311 Posted December 30, 2015 I totally get where you're coming from and agree with a lot of it. Slightly related/unrelated story. I work with young children and there is one boy who is six and for the last two years has been obsessed with Star Wars. He runs around trying to force lightning or force choke everybody all day. Anyway, one day he asked me what my favourite Star Wars movie was. I told him it was Empire but he said he hadn't seen that one yet and asked me what happens. I give him a simple overview and say that Luke and Vader fight. He he asked me who wins and I told him he'd have to watch it. He said that he knows Vader wins and tells him he his dad. When I asked how he knows he said that his parents told him after they watched A New Hope and he was asking about Luke. I found this very sad that especially at that age with him so much into it what a loss it was not seeing that moment and being in shock. Hopefully Lucas Films/Disney will be as tight lipped with the next one as they were with this one. Â Also, now that I think about the shipping, do you think that anybody after A New Hope was shipping Han and Luke like they are Fin and Poe? Those parents should lose their parenting rights cause that's doing it so wrong! Â I wanted to add really quick that I do think theorizing is totally fun and I don't want to seem like I'm going, "I DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT SO NO ONE ELSE SHOULD EITHER!" Cause that's just pushy and rude lol. Â With the shipping stuff I'm certain there were totally people who shipped Han and Luke just as much. The whole slash fiction thing started with Kirk and Spock in TOS and that was well before Star Wars had come out. But also I believe that Finn and Poe had more romantic chemistry together in those few scenes but that's just me lol. 2 Share this post Link to post
ParrotTalkBack 110 Posted December 30, 2015 Correction, they do acknowledge Anthony Daniels as the voice of c3po  Yes! Making it even worse that the only person not credited is the little person inside R2-D2, like "they don't matter, who cares, it's more important to pretend R2 is a real robot" Share this post Link to post
ParrotTalkBack 110 Posted December 30, 2015 I am a huge fan of Jim Henson, but this had his psychedelic modern dance stink all over it. The Cirque du Soleil performance was straight out of the first season of The Muppet Show. I know no one who was actually working on Star Wars was involved in the Holiday Special, but as soon as I saw that, I thought of Jim Henson. I don't think he'd allow such cheap wookie costumes on his watch though. Â Also Princess Leia is TYPING ON A WORD PROCESSOR. WHY???? If there were such a thing as word processors in the Star Wars universe, why would a princess do her own typing? She's really a princess of the people, I guess. Share this post Link to post
xlarsonx 1 Posted December 30, 2015 LOVED this episode. Â I was 7 when this aired and was so excited for it. It was the first time I experienced wanting to like something so badly and having it crush me. A real life lesson. 1 Share this post Link to post
faye-raye 109 Posted December 30, 2015 So forgive me, I've never watched this or, in fact, Star Wars, but if Life Days is the wookie version of Christmas, a time for family that's so important that Chewie s risking all to get home, why is Lumpy, is father and Itchy's stand-in male role model, spending it jerking off to interspecie porno and not playing with his grandson? Cinco DeNio 5290 Posted December 30, 2015 Han Solo's comment on Chewie's family and the Fast & Furious reference above makes me want to see a Star Wars Holiday Special-themed Fast & Furious movie. Han & Chewie could steal the talisman from the Boba Fett cartoon but it's up in one of the Kashyyk treehouses. They crash the Falcon into the one house, steal the talisman then have to jump between trees to the next house. Share this post Link to post

PlanBFromOuterSpace 3138 Posted December 30, 2015 Holy shit, I JUST realized that Chewie is basically Jeremy Renner in "Hurt Locker", an action junkie that can't stand being back in the real world and around his family for more than ten minutes without wanting to go back to being in the shit. 6 Share this post Link to post

PlanBFromOuterSpace 3138 Posted December 31, 2015 Â Jesus this changes everything! Where is Chewie's Oscar nomination!? There has to be a deleted scene somewhere of Chewie walking through a grocery store, clearly not giving a shit while his old lady is doing the Life Day shopping... 1 Share this post Link to post

Lumpy'sCousinGreasy 0 Posted December 31, 2015 Shame on you "How Did This Get Made" podcast pundits! It was so easy to piss on Chewie, trotting out the tired trope of the deadbeat dad. How about deadbeat mom Mala and deadbeat grandpa Itchy?! Those two did not give any f**ks about Lumpy going out on the porch by himself without adult supervision while Lumpy performs a death-defying high wire act on the handrail 500 feet above the ground! You took the easy shots at Lumpy's daddy issues but missed the forest for the trees! Open your eyes dudes (and lady)! It takes a village! Chewie's out hustlin' to support his family the best way he knows how, despite not getting any love from his old lady at home and no respect from his whiny kid! While the breadwinner is away bustin' his hairy a** on business trips, Lumpy is receiving gifts in exchange for kisses from Carney, Mala makes out with Carney and pines for his old balls and Itchy mooches off the fruits of Chewie's hardwork and gets off watching porn in the living room! Again, Mala and Itchy give no f**ks about how their behavior and immorality might affect Lumpy! Chewie just wants to earn an honest living with these long trips away from home supporting his dysfunctional family, all while resisting his inter-species sexual attraction to his best friend! Â Much Love, Greasy Share this post Link to post

Cameron H. 23786 Posted December 31, 2015 I just got back from my second viewing of The Force Awakens, and found that the things I liked before, I liked more even if it still doesn't work for me altogether. I'd place it in my top seven Star Wars movies. Â My biggest gripe I think has to be the villains. They are about the most toothless group I've every seen. Hopefully, we'll see some added threat to them in the future, because, right now, this is what I see... Â Kylo Ren: Â Â Â Â Admiral Hux: Â Â Â Â Snoke: Â Â Â Â Captain Phasma: Â Â Â 2 Share this post Link to post

Hopefully, we'll see some added threat to them in the future, because, right now, this is what I see... Â Kylo Ren: Â Â Â Â Admiral Hux: Â Â Â Â Snoke: Â Â Â Â Captain Phasma: Â Â Â The thing is though this was about the heroes, not the villains, similar to New Hope. I can understand where they will be built upon in the sequels because at this point Abrams is trying to get these new protagonists across to us. For all of the complains about Ren, I liked his arc the best because in all fairness, he's still grasping his place in the Force. He's not a full Sith lord yet but he's getting there, it's just his emotions that are way out of line, similar to how Annakin was emotionally screwed up in episodes 2 and 3. Phasma was unfortunately hyped so much by fans that expectations could never be met, I'm hoping the character improves, but you never know. To me, that character was like what happens to every big video game release, writers and fans hype them up SO MUCH with what they want to be in them or what they expect, that when the game is finally released and still really good, if not great, people complain because it was not fitting with the image that they had in their head. I just read an article on how Fallout 4 was a certain writers most disappointing game of the year because they had envisioned all of this possible stuff and when nothing like that happened, they were mad. Now NONE of this stuff was really mentioned by the publisher as being part of the game, but dammit it SHOULD have been. Way I look at it, when I hear a game or movie coming out I expect one simple thing from it, be good. If it can do that then hey it met my expectations. 2 Share this post Link to post

Cameron H. 23786 Posted December 31, 2015 I saw Force Awakens last night. It was okay. *shrug* Â THANK YOU!!!! Â Lately, not necessarily here, I feel like whenever I tell people that I "liked" it, I then have to sit through a lecture about how I'm wrong for not "loving" it. It's actually starting to sour my opinion on the whole thing.... 2 Share this post Link to post
SolSallee 4 Posted January 1, 2016 "Did anyone else notice that C-3PO was blinking in the cartoon? This was so weird. " Â I think that's an animation choice, the character would appear too static and lifeless as a cartoon if it did not blink 1 Share this post Link to post
RyanSz 3140 Posted January 1, 2016 There is not enough time in the world to try and break down everything nuts about the Star Wars meets Heavy Metal cartoon. Though I will say I think Hamill's makeup was designed to make him look more like his cartoon counterpart. 1 Share this post Link to post
SolSallee 4 Posted January 1, 2016 I'm a background artist working in the animation industry and for obvious reasons found the cartoon to be the most fascinating part of the special, both as an artist and a fan of Star Wars. The thing I liked most about it was the style of drawing, it is influenced by - if not directly ripped off of - Jean Giraud's aka Moebius's style. I checked and he had no involvement in this short, but he was highly influential in the comics world at the time. Matt Gourley was correct for saying it reminded him of Heavy Metal magazine, Giraud was a founder. He was also the artist who storyboarded the entire Dune screenplay written by Jodorowsky. This is well documented in the documentary film Jodorowsky's Dune where they mention that Moebius's designs influenced the look of sci-fi in the 70s and 80s. Although he never worked on any Star Wars films, Moebius went on to do character, set, and costume designs for films such as Aliens, Tron, Masters of the Universe, Fifth Element and many more. So, to see a quality Star Wars 2d animated short in the style of Moebius (something rare in animation for some strange reason) AND have little nerd bits like the first appearance of Boba Fett doing unfilmable things like riding a dinosaur really is a treat! Now, here's some art: https://landscapetheory1.wordpress.com/2015/02/22/moebius/ 3 Share this post Link to post
