Thomas sure does have fun. Just terrifying, cocaine-fueled, child-like fun.

Edit: What is Mr Conductor looking at? The action is clearly up front. I bet he is simply locked in place there and can't unsee the carnage Thomas left on the rails in his wake.

Speaking of assholes with asshole trucks, I was working at a bank a couple of years back when we got a call to be on high alert because a bank a few miles away had just been robbed. It wasn't one of ours, but it's not like bank robbers have brand loyalty or anything. Anyway, things cooled down a short time later when we learned that the culprit(s) had been caught almost immediately. What happened was that some girl had turned her boyfriend in for it, as the cops had come to her house after witnesses reported her truck, which had been borrowed by her boyfriend, fleeing the scene. If that wasn't dumb enough, thinking you could get away with a robbery just because you were driving a vehicle that wasn't yours, the truck itself was this bright pink pick-up with writing across the top of the windshield, so it really, really stood out. And if THAT wasn't dumb enough, the giant words on the windshield were spelled wrong, so it said "Daddy's Angle" or something like that. I specifically remember the "angle" instead of "angel" part.

I see I am not the only one here who's read dark tower, and made it all the way to book three.

So, PlanBFromOuterSpace- the lesson is don't have your truck detailed by a dyslexic!

sure that wasn't Penn jillette pink death truck. sure sounds like his old truck. all of his cars are pink.

I will absolutely pick up Book Three of the Dark Tower series if a murderous Thomas the Tank Engine is a plot point and there is a suggestion that it is related to the same entity from Maximum Overdrive.

George Carlin just leanin' out the cab like a maniac, doing some classic stand-up bits through a foam of mad saliva as they race down some rails in a silly dystopian King wasteland?

No real conductor on the train, but in the versions of the book that has images there is a image similar to what you are looking for.

I feel like, between people trying to fuel my apparent anthropomorphized train fetish, and people demanding (3) that Maximum Overdrive be riffed, we should take it upon ourselves to do it. J.Canada, has a real grip on some truck fetish. And apparently I am really the foil for train/gremlin/porn. We only need a third straight man, to fill out the cast. Just some guy who's real ambivalent about trains, gremlins or porn, let alone train/gremlin/porn. Can such a man exist?

BTW, if you wondered anything about James 'Jimmy', 'the', 'Jerry', 'Canada', pronounced, 'Cuh-han-duh', he grew up in the tiny town of Ridiculousname-astan. It's Western Canadian and a-drip with maple syrup. Beneath a bandalier of grenades and a black-face skull, there is a lover of fine cinema. He enjoys observing trucks...especially those that may be sentient or IF sentient be especially capable of KILLING HIM. Some may doubt this, as all images of trucks he posts suggests they are all intended as ironic engines of death.

I saw this movie on Turner Classic Movies a couple weeks ago and let me tell you: it puts the "classic" in TCM. My friends and I even rewatched it a few days ago. It's so good, and there are so many great selling points. Coked-up Stephen King's only directed movie? Emilio Estevez and Yeardley Smith? An original AC/DC soundtrack? Pop machines shooting cans at people's nuts? This movie is perfect for HDTGM.

This movie is a fantastic choice both in that it is fun, lacks internal logic, and, above all, was directed by Stephen King HIMSELF. As well, Nostalgia Critic has already reviewed it. Will HDTGM allow itself to be one-upped?!!!

Bumping this recommendation again just because I don't want this cocain-fueled gem getting lost in the boards.

I must admit, I do enjoy Maximum Overdrive but it fell a bit short of greatness for me. There are lots of great and fantastically terrible scenes that make this film enjoyable but it seems all for nothing (SPOILER ALERT) because Yeardley Smith survives. I can't speak for anyone else but as I was watching innocent people being murdered by various machines, I kept building up in my mind how King was going to kill off the one character that I wanted to see die so bad. Is there no justice? Smith should have suffered the greatest of all deaths in this film and yet in the end is on a boat with the survivors. At the very least, as the credits were beginning to roll someone could have tossed her off the boat and she could have been eaten by a shark.

Yeardley Smith's character is maybe one of the most unlikeable characters in all of movie history. I always hate it when the least likable character doesn't die in a horror movie, because it is such a huge letdown. It would be like the douchey boyfriend not getting his or even worse, the horrible character dies doing something noble in an attempt to make right all of the bad things they have done, which completely knocks the wind out of their death scene.

But isn't that the way real life works? For every Elliott Smith or Patrice O'Neal we loose, we retain an Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh. The Universe isn't unfair.

This has to be a live show episode. This movie reaks of 1980s coked up hubris. Staring an Emilio Estevez at the height of his hotness, featuring character actor icon Pat Hingle, with cameos by Yeardley Smith (aka Lisa Simpson), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad's Gus), and Marla Maples (ex wife of Donald Trump), throw in being directed by, and adapted from Stephen King, with a soundtrack by AC/DC, might as well get a mullet, rusted out trans-am, with a painted album cover jean jacket.

Plenty of shit to riff about, how about the lead actress being 4 inches taller than the lead actor (precusor to Tom Cruise and the current Josh Hutchinson in the hunger games movies), horrible violin screeching reminding us of a much better movie before this one. i could go on.

Your point is invalid. This movie is about machines revolting because of an asteroid and/or aliens. At the very least we should have gotten to see her die a painful and spectacular death.

"Curtis, is he dead?"

Please please do this; it's so perfect. Why does the Happy Toyz truck have a terrifying clown on the back and the Green Goblin (with light up red eyes) on the front; does that toy company hate children? How do the buttons on the bridge get pushed and the levers get moved? How do headphone cords strangle people? How does a vending machine have enough power to shoot out soda cans 30 feet? How hard can it be to avoid said cans? Just, you know, step to the side.

HOW DOES THIS MOVIE IGNORE PHYSICS AND I STILL LOVE IT??

Also, gotta mention all the nudie pics ripped from magazines, taped up on the wall as some kind of pervy collage, that are shown repeatedly and ARE SO 80'S.
