I saw this article last year and keep it bookmarked for easy reference. I'm def not saying it's the be all end all, especially with their number one choice, but it makes some excellent suggestions https://www.bbc.com/culture/article/20191125-the-100-greatest-films-directed-by-women-poll

MUCHO, MUCHO apologies. I had meant to host showings on Wednesday and Thursday nights as well as Friday. So, I will be happy to schedule individual showings over the weekend if people can't access PlutoTV. @Cam Bert, are you able to see this? If not, let me know. I plan on doing the usual 9 p.m. Eastern but can move that up to 7 or 8 if it's easier for whoever.

That's interesting that "high school" movie is specified, because The 400 Blows is definitely not that.

Maybe it's just because they are very recent films, but I like Lady Bird, Eighth Grade, Booksmart, and Edge Of Seventeen. I think Superbad does this list but I've kind of soured on it over the years. I'm kind of surprised their list doesn't include The Breakfast Club. The Diary Of A Teenage Girl is a great coming of age movie but significantly less school focused than it seems Unspooled is going for right now.

I also love Rushmore and would love to discuss it, but I feel like most people now consider that a lesser Wes Anderson movie (behind Grand Budapest Hotel and Royal Tenenbaums). It does seem like they're supposed to be school-related in some way. In that case I also like Dazed and Confused because I love to talk about Linklater. Or if we really want to get wild, School of Rock.

It seems like a number of Boomers became a bit self-loathing about their own youths as they got older. Just think about how many of them must have experimented with recreational drugs in the 60s and 70s, but when they came of age politically they (as a group) favored harsh criminal punishments for drug use.

I don't think House Party has had quite the same staying power, but maybe that's just me.

It actually used to be an inside joke with a friend of mine that we'd say "You up for the house special?" to each other because of the sequence where: a) Lithgow surreptitiously records Denzel Washington flirting with a waitress, then b) Drugs Denzel into unconsciousness with heroin, then c) Hires a prostitute to have sex with his unconscious body, while d) Videotaping, so he can e) DUB the dialogue from the waitress flirting over the hooker video so it looks as if Denzel is conscious and participating, then f) Publicize the videotape to ruin Denzel's reputation, WHILE g) As a bonus (or maybe part of the plan question mark?,) giving Denzel a VENEREAL DISEASE And this is just, like, PART of his revenge plan.

I am that way with the TV miniseries The Blue and the Gray. I was in 8th grade History class when it was broadcast. Our teacher would record each night (on Betamax tapes!) and we'd watch and discuss it in class.
