I've been meaning to corral an online playlist/mixtape group thread here on the forum for a while, but never got around to it for one reason or another (re: laziness). Thanks to the on-going pandemic, however, this is about as good a time as any to share and listen to compilations of music (just like those good ol' homemade mix cassettes and CDR's of recent yore!) The inspiration for this thread came from both Zouk's recommending the phenomenal band Mannequin Pussy a couple of episodes back (thank you!) and his Amoeba Records What's in My Bag video. I figure that our HDTGM community, likewise, has amazing taste in music and want this thread to serve as a forum for all of us to share our online mixes and playlists (via Spotify, Soundcloud, YouTube, etc.) I made this mix last year (but never got around to posting) for Jason, June and John called A Politcal Song for Jason Mantzoukas to Sing: Anyone else have online music mixes that they would like to share?

I will post my thoughts about Unforgettable later, because honestly, I’m still slogging my way through re-watching it. It is bonkers, but ugh. i am trying to make this more interactive, so this week I’ve chosen Netflix as the streaming service and made a list of suggestions for viewing. People can (hopefully) find something to vote for on the list or add their own suggestions. I don’t care if the movie is “good” or “bad,” just looking for something fun to watch. Based on the number of responses (If there are responses) and/or votes, I’ll announce the official movie of the week by midday Friday. We can plan on having watched the movie by Tuesday (?). Again, open to suggestions on the date. Here’s my list. Some of these films are good, some are junk that is fun to poke fun at, some have been covered on HDTGM. This list is in no way comprehensive. if I was to make an official, “serious” pick, it would be The Wicker Man (original 70s version). That film is a trip. If you liked Midsommar, this film is worth checking out. Here’s the rest: 2012 Bad Boys spider Man 3(HDTGM episode) Goldeneye Indiana Jones and the Kingdom the Crystal Skull Bad Boys 2 Wild Wild West (HDTGM episode) Ghostrider Popeye Jupiter Ascending(I believe this is an HDTGM episode) Tomorrow Never Dies Tremors Free Fire Charlie’s Angels Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle John Carter Godzilla (HDTGM episode) Monty Python and the Holy Grail (OR The Life of Brian)

Don't know if these are helping anyone, but here are some of my most heard this year so far + a couple of my all time faves. 20 songs, 1 hour 24 minutes. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4r2bP9TF57giu6ImaNwzt1?si=dTWScdAsSLaCG3CWplc9xQ

Jupiter Ascending is a HDTGM ep ( i googled it; #112 ), but i'd be down to seeing it again. I have a LOT of thoughts on Eddie Redmayne. I've also never seen John Carter ( of Mars ), and one of my favorite science pods The Common Descent Podcast just did a mini ep on Tremors, so, those three get my vote. Bees, Martians or Graboids.

Just some random thoughts as I listened to this on my daily self isolation walk: I was on the bubble, but listening to Paul & Amy, I voted no. Their discussion was too inside-Hollywood, and I think the film being there hurts it. I tend to a bias against movies about movies, but I think this film is a good example why. It's distances me from relating to the point, puts up a slight barrier there for me. I think Paul & Amy said that you're instantly against Sullivan, but I didn't view it that way. I thought we were on his side throughout. Maybe I took it wrong. But this is one of the complicated aspects of the film that I really liked. Also, I'm not clueless about old movies, but I'm certainly no deep expert. But all these other Sturges movies that Paul & Amy bring up... I've never heard of any of them. Are any of them really in the zeitgeist as Sullivan's Travels is? I don't see how you can replace this with another Sturges for the list, if he must be on there. Are people really watching Coen Brothers movies and going "oh well it's fine"?

I don't know much about Chinese history . This actually isn't going to be very useful, I just wanted to show everyone one of my favorite pieces of art from my local museum ( The Flint Institute of Art). It's a Han dynasty model of a watchtower. It has tiny watchmen with crossbow, fish, ducks( geese?) .It would have been used as a funerary object to protect the deceased in the afterlife. I don't know why but I just love it. It doesn't photograph as well as it looks in person. Some of the figures look to be missing . In person you can see the fish on the bottom of the "lake" and I don't know... I just think it's neat. I chose this over the creepy painting of one of the Medici that follows you around the room I love or the fantastic tapestries, during an Art Appreciation class . We had to write about our favorite piece and I knew exactly what I was going to write about and I never do that. I just find this little tower fascinating. Long story short visit museums virtually right now and when you can go see your local ones!

No, but it is shooting for realism, isn't it? This is about a real world case being solved by real world people in order to focus in on real life justice and human nature. Also, I do think it has developed a reputation of verite, even if unintended; Amy's story about Justice Sotomayor having to tell juries to quell their 12 Angry Men-inspired aspirations is proof.
