EPISODE 115 — Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!

Recommended Posts

Okay, listening to Jason, Paul, and Scott talk about space was painful.

There is no way he could have made it to the moon. The moon is like 240,000 miles away. They were at, I assume, low earth orbit altitude. That would put them 1,200 miles up (at maximum). They didn't seem to be orbiting either. So Hasselhoff totally fell back to Earth and burned alive.

This movie was just.. ugh so hard to watch I hated everyone in it, the only person I could stand was Ray J as ridiculous as that sounds. I feel like less of a person after watching it but this podcast made it worth it great ep! (I missed june!) I couldn't believe they said june wasn't a good name in this piece of trash movie it made me yell at the screen. The whole space business was complete insanity. Everyone seeing the fucking huge laser and not freaking the fuck out just looking at it fondly was frustrating to say the least.. also the laser not injuring any people was just moronic. Pushing the baby out of the shark face first was just a bit irresponsible id say..

"ahhhh the sharks are falling out of the sky Marty!!"

For the record, I think Scott got confused with Today's Natalie Morales and the awesome actress Natalie Morales, also known as Lucy on Parks and Rec as well as playing Wendy Watson on the cut way too short The Middleman. You are not a racist!

Mark Cuban does play himself as the president. He says to Fin that he lost a friend in New York referring to Daymond John (another shark in Shark Tank) who got killed by the Statue of Liberty's head in Sharknado 2.

Just something about the two German podcasters: They aren’t podcasters. Actually they are tv-hosts, one of them is the biggest tv critic in Germany with his own satirical show, but the reason why they are in this movie seems to be something else. Those two host a show called “Die schlechtesten Filme aller Zeiten” (The worst movies of all time), where they show a bad movie and after every commercial brake they talk about. Not in the length like hdtgm, but they make some fun of it. And when they showed Sharknado it was also the free-tv premiere of the movie. There was also a sharknado-Party and stuff like that. They celebrated this movie (not that they liked it, they hated it).

So I just think because they made so much fuss about the movie and a lot of people watched it here in Germany, they got this little cameo.

Hey, guys. Just wanted to let you guys know the best way to hide porn or other things on your computer.

Go to start and click on Computer then go into Program Files. In program files just find a folder with a bunch of other folders in it and create a new folder with an ambigiously important name. For example. If I go to the Windows Media Folder there's other folders named, Icons, Skins, Media Renderer, Network Sharing. Just create a new folder titled something like, debug, AppPatch64, Custom, PCAT, and tranfer all your stuff to that folder.

If you want to go the extra step then just right click on the folder, click on properties, and under "Attributes" select "Hidden" and click ok. Now the folder is hidden and the only way to see it or be able to use it is by unhiding it whenever you want then just hide it again when you're done.

This is how you unhide a folder. Click on "tools" on the menu bar on top -> Select the "View" tab -> Under Advanced Settings click on "Show hidden Files, folders, drives".

Because Donald Trump is actually a character that Jason is doing Tony Clifton style. Didn't you hear Trump call people "dum dums?"

Each week on Corrections & Omissions they should have a new Twitter ID for Jason.

"We mistakenly shared the wrong Twitter ID for Jason. You can send him Tweets at @fuckyouguysImnotonTwiter...."

Since I didn't watch Sharknado 3 I'm not sure how qualified I am to comment on the movie, but I had an epiphany of sorts while listening to the episode regarding this franchise's use of cameos--specifically as applied to Teller.

From what I gather, Teller was playing a military officer of some sort and Scott asked the question, "Why can't he talk if he's not playing himself?" To me, this is a very good question and further highlights that--despite how successful these movies may be--the film makers still don't have a clue how to make a decent movie. I say this because the only answer I could come up with for Scott's question was: he doesn't talk because, in his act, Teller doesn't talk. I know that sounds like a self-evident piece of nonsense, but stick with me.

In my opinion, for a cameo to work, you can go one of two ways: in the case of a drama/action movie, it should be memorable, but subtle enough to not pull you out of the movie (e.g. Alec Baldwin in Glengarry Glen Ross), or, in the case of a comedy, the joke has to work regardless of whether the person is famous or not (e.g. Barbara Billingsley in Airplane!). In either event, the actor should never overshadow the role they are playing. When Teller is onscreen, the first thing that comes to mind shouldn't be, "Hey, that's Teller!" We should be thinking, "Hey, that's a military guy" and maybe "Wait a minute--is that Teller? Cool, I've never heard him talk before..."

I recognize that this is a silly little quibble, but I think it is at least a symptom of why the Sharknado movies (especially 2 and I would assume 3) just don't work for me. They're not just "bad" movies, they are inept movies. They fail as comedies and they fail as action movies. Just because you can tap out some balderdash script on a keyboard, point the camera in the right direction, and get people to watch it, doesn't mean you have an aptitude for movie making.

Then again, what do I know? I freely admit, just as I don't work in Human Resources, I don't work in the film industry either...but if anyone can guess my career within a fortnight, they are welcome to my pot of gold!

I love that they do these, because each one eliminates any slight "I have to watch this" feeling I might have. I had my doubts that Jason watched this one, though, given the number of times he had no idea what Paul (or Scott) was talking about.

I do wish they'd waited for June to be available to do this one. HDTGM can still be good without her, but it's incomplete.

Omission?: According to both wikipedia and IMDB, Marc Maron is in this movie.

Teller spoke on an episode of the Simpsons ("now Penn's gonna beat me"). He also apparently speaks a lot on a documentary about Houdini for the History Channel.

What the what!? Does it say who he played or what scene he was in?!

First of all, is June too good for us now? Her show gets nominated for some Emmys and she can't make time for Sharknado? I really wanted her to do more dramatic readings of Nova's lines. I'm totally bummed.

Second, when they mentioned the George RR Martin cameo I was like, "Wait, wait! There's no way that was really George RR Martin! That guy is too busy! He's got a book to write before next May." But then I looked it up... and it is indeed George RR Martin. http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/07/23/why-game-of-thrones-creator-george-r-r-martin-was-in-sharknado-3 I can't wait for all the ASOIAF fanboys to blame SHARKNADO for the next delay in "Winds of Winter."

Unrelated to this episode, I tried to get the FAIR GAME/COBRA book and the TERRIBLE GAME (Gymkata) book from the library but they are out of print. I wanted to start a HDTGM bookclub. I'm very sad.

If Scott was wearing white cotton pants, he would be wearing a reverse zouk-suit, and then there would be a reverse-zouk-suit between two zouk-suits.

But having them in such close quarters would almost certainly lead to a Zouk-suit Riot!

Agree with your entire post. And now to something more fun than anything in the Sharknados...I guess that you either teach English/Writing or you are an editor.

This is not such a fun comment, but did anyone find it a bit insensitive that, of all the U.S. cities to destroy, they chose Charleston, SC? Given the recent events of this summer? Assuming that it was filmed before the attack, couldn't they have ADR'ed that dialogue and chosen to destroy an east-coast city that wasn't recently shaken to its core by a racist gunman? To at least give the historical black church more than a month to recover before it was decimated along with the rest of the city?

Too soon, guys?

On a separate point, I expected them to bring up the fact that, according to IMDB, the crew was fired when they asked for a union contract, and " the majority of the film was shot with a replacement crew of unskilled technicians."

Any verification there?

There were definitely some moments where the technical work felt suspect. When Tara Reid uses her prosthetic chainsaw, it was only hinted at with a couple brief glimpses. One could be forgiven for not realizing what she actually did. Where was the money shot?

They did, towards the end of the podcast. They described the firing of union crew and the subsequent hiring of non-union crew as "shady" and "not great." So glad that the HDTGM gang is pro-union.

ETA: The union talk starts at 1:10:49.
