4 pointsRe: his motorcycle, apparently the seat height was only 30 inches, so I can believe he was a tiny human lol. Also, that motorcycle had only 27 horsepower (they make Vespas with ~24 hp now). Anyhoo, I thought the music was great, Prince's stage performances were electric, but I couldn't get into anything else. Took me 3 days to get through the movie and even then I kept fast forwarding through the parts where people just stared at each other.

4 pointsYes! Jerome! That blew my mind. Also, I've been listening to too much Lizzo lately, so he constantly reminded me of: (I bet he's the kind of guy who would throw ladies in dumpsters)

1 pointI used my free preview of Hulu but it's cheaper to get a month of that and a free week of Starz than to get a month of Starz through Prime. That's way too much work for one movie but 10 minutes in and it's for sure HDTGM worthy. I guess I can finally watch the new Veronica Mars though. This is definitely a reason for us to find a rabb.it replacement.
-
1 pointSometimes you have to get creative with your free previews. I’ve used my previews for Prime and Hulu, but not Apple TV. If you have an iPhone, you should be able to do it through the TV app. Honestly, we really need to get on the ball with a rabb.it replacement. Not only for our movie nights, but for situations like this where maybe people can rotate renting the movies and we can watch in a room.

1 pointHmmm... I'm not getting the option for a seven day preview. That might be because I'm checking through the phone app but it might also be because I'm using the free preview of Prime this month. I'll have to check when I get home. I really hope the show isn't going to start having impossible to find movies again. If I need Prime and then a subscription on top of that, ugh.

1 pointThat’s the only way I know. I’m signing up for a 7-day free preview.

1 pointThe worst part is she never actively left him. She pawned her bracelet for his guitar and tells him she's thinking of making a career choice. She was always up front with him and wasn't saying she was going to be sleeping with Morris or even that she liked his music. Just that she thought it was a good job for her and she *might* take it. The Kid is SO jealous and insecure he hit her because she was talking about the possibility of taking a job. That's like your boyfriend going ape shit over you taking a job at Pizza Hut when he's a sworn Dominoes man. And it's not like he helped offer get her any work! Not even as part of his act or at the club. In fact, of the two Morris was technically the only one to actually help her do anything. Was he doing it because he was a creep? Yes. But does he hit women who he's seeing? No he technically has his best friend/ butler/ side kick throw them in dumpsters. Is this better? Not really but at least he kept his word? You guys a man literally threw a woman in a dumpster in this film. I cannot stress that enough
-
1 pointI need a movie just on Jerome. A man who will throw a woman into a dumpster and whose is a cartoonish modern Jeeves is a man I need to know more about

1 pointYou guys now I really want this jam I had in Chicago at a cafe called Wildberry. They don't have an online store and this is the current tragedy of my life. I AM IN A JAM OVER JAM Y'ALL!

1 pointI didn't rewatch this but my main recollection is that all the criticisms brought up here are accurate. But Prince, for as bad as an actor he is, is so charismatic that he's kind of watchable even when he isn't performing. But the performances and songs are so good that this is still worth checking out.
-
1 pointI might be wrong, but it’s not so much as he’s slipping as the audience is falling behind. After he storms off, the club owner tells him “no one gets your songs but you.” The Kid is an Artist while Morris Day is commercial.

1 pointIs anyone else finding it impossible to watch Prelude to a Kiss without a Starz subscription? I want to see early 90's Alec Baldwin wearing gigantic glasses in a body switcheroo!!

1 pointI worry about sort of the opposite thing. I worry that as new people on the boards they may feel discouraged by their "work" so to speak, being overlooked in favor of calls that essentially day the same thing. Especially when, as you mentioned, often the people who are on the boards tend to write the questions/ observations on a more engaging and interesting way than how the callers phrase things. I think part of that is due to the general awkward nature of leaving a voice mail message but also partly because I think on the boards we take out time and can really go at a subject. I don't know I just feel like sometimes on the boards we are more passionate and interested in the subject. I don't mind the calls I just think that we have some really good content on here and I love it .

1 pointAlso, totally my own opinion, but I’m not sure I’m completely down with the Tune/Toon question being included just so it could be “called out.” It feels almost like...bullying? I’m sure there wasn’t any ill-intent, but Cody says she included the call, not because it was interesting, insightful, or funny, but, unless I misheard, because of the person’s ignorance and misunderstanding Merry Melodies? Like, I get that sometimes we’re wrong, or Paul disagrees, makes fun of us, and tells us to fuck off (looking at you @Quasar Sniffer), and that’s all fun and a part of it. But I don’t really want C&O’s to be chosen when they’re already known to be wrong, just so we can say, “Ha,ha! You don’t know [this basic thing], dork!” There are other posts/calls that could have been chosen instead. Again, I’m 100% certain it wasn’t intentionally malicious, but it’s still plucking a person out of obscurity, and calling attention to something that could easily be politely ignored, for the express purpose of making fun of them. Personally, that’s a route I would prefer we avoid if at all possible.

1 pointPaul did NOT like my perspective that Disney films are also a commercial enterprise. I got fuck-you'd pretty definitively. Yikes. I laffed. And was that Marvin the Martian phone comment, about Marvin being impartial because his is both from space and a Looney Tune, another example of a call almost directly quoting a message board comment? I feel like I did hear it before (or at least read it)

1 pointSeriously, how has Hard Rain not been done yet? Let's bump this one up to the top of the list! It hits every note of a classic HDTGM episode.

1 point1. Simon Sez with Dennis Rodman and young Dane Cook - absolute insanity 2. Dragon Wars (or D-Wars) - have Craig Robinson as the guest - crazy Korean film in English that is impossible to understand 3. A Sound of Thunder - took a great Ray Bradbury story and botched it completely 4. Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever - Still 0% on Rotten Tomatoes - makes minimal sense and is wild 5. Dungeons & Dragons - come on now, this is sooooo awful and I'm not even that familiar with the source material. The Wayans character Snails is so incredibly racist in his character's depiction. Honorable Mentions: Soul Man - a full movie about blackface?!? Street Fighter - Legend of Chun-Li - how are they so bad at making Street Fighter movies? Chris Klein?!? Jonah Hex - woof what were they trying to do here, poor Josh Brolin and Fassbender
-
1 pointYeah, it is a bloody awful movie, truly dire. Based on the Ray Bradbury story, too, it's a great premise, how can they mess it up? Watch the film and you will see exactly how they could mess it up. This film is actually a perfect example of 'how did this get made?'
