5 pointsYeah, it used to be Marissa, but she left soon after the 2nd Howdies. She was super-duper nice. I donāt want anyone to be mad at anyone. If everyone just shakes their fist at the sky for a moment in mock fury, that will be enough.

4 pointsThis is another spoiler for what my thoughts on this movie are, but... although I traditionally identify as a heterosexual male (unless I'm watching a Thor movie or listening to Neil Gaiman speak), I think I need to expand whatever my sexual orientation is in some way to make sure it includes "David Byrne in a cowboy hat driving a car."

4 pointsMy bad. I don't know how I missed JammerLea's. When Paul read your comment, I thought "someone provided historical examples but I don't remember who. So, I assumed it was a different post that didn't make the cut. Knowing it's the same post though...well, I've got my pitchfork ready. Nate definitely does research but I don't know if that includes selecting forum comments.

4 pointsI know. Thatās what Jam and I were saying above. I mean, Iāve been posting here long enough. I get how it all works. Iām not angry. I was honestly being (mostly) hyperbolic in my response - lol. In the grand scheme of things, itās not a big deal. If anything, I would say I am...āgood naturedly, but passionately, annoyed.ā Normally, I wouldnāt even address it at all. I only responded this time because this kind of thing is a particular pet peeve of mine. (I once got in an email argument with a radio DJ for taking an out of context quote from Obama and making it seem like he was saying something he clearly wasnāt. His argument to me was that he was providing āentertainmentā for his listeners, while I contended - that since most people might not have had the opportunity to see the speech in its entirety - he had a responsibility, based on his platform, to give people the full context and not cherry pick clips to strengthen his point. Interestingly, he eventually invited me on to his show to argue with him on-air. However, since Iām not an idiot and didnāt particularly feel like being ambushed, I politely declined.) Iām not even saying that my evidence was even all that good. Iām just saying, itās a big old eye roll to hear, āYou didnāt tell me xyzā when I very much did. It doesnāt really even matter why he didnāt read that part. I know it wasnāt done maliciously. That would be fucking ludicrous - lol. My post was in two paragraphs. For brevityās sake, Iām sure whoever chose it just took the first part, thinking that the second paragraph was redundant. It was just mildly annoying to hear, thatās all. I was merely indulging myself a bit by being a little over the top in my rebuttal. My computer is safe and sound - lol. Honestly, Iām just touched that Elektra and Jammer even noticed. That made me feel really good Forum people continue to be the best people.

3 pointsYeah, I saw that. Itās really sad. He seemed to be really well loved. Itās tragic.

3 pointsSince I know we're all mega comedy fans I wanted to mention the passing of Brody Stevens Every time I heard him on a podcast he was fucking hilarious and beaming with positivity and everything sucks now that he's gone. Paul made a very beautiful post about him on his Instagram so I highly recommend checking that out (I still don't know how to properly bring things over to here very well). Death sucks and I'm sorry that all my favorites lost such a great light in their lives.

3 pointsCORRECTION: Natasha Lyonne wasnāt on the Superman III episode, she was on the Superman IV episode. (Made me super confused when I saw the hdtgm classics movie nite thread)
-
3 pointsThere is definitely a person who pulls the comments from the message board for Paul. Because they are often truncated and I recall Paul mentioning who it is. But right now I am only thinking Nate Kylie but I feel like he is the researcher and I am wrongfully accusing him. It's difficult for me to remain mad when I canāt remember who I should be mad at.
-
3 pointsI'm guessing for this one someone else collected a couple comments from the thread for Paul to read, but only copied part of your post, so Paul probably had no idea that you provided an example. Oh well
-
3 pointsWhoa, whoa, whoa! I just listened to it! I thought he just didnāt read that bit and maybe it weakened what I was trying to say. But to actually omit the bit where I gave historical context, and then say I didnāt give any evidence and THEN say that Iām ābetter than thatā is some straight up BUUUUUUULLLLSHIT! I mean, no, I didnāt go deep with the fucking microfiche or anything, but I did provide a very relevant example (one that most people would be familiar with without research) with dates - even if only approximate. Look, Iām fully capable of looking like I donāt know what the fuck Iām talking about on my own - lol. But donāt give partial context and then say I should have given more or call me out for being lazy. I mean, if it was that bad, donāt read it. Thatās fine. But donāt present a false narrative. Gah! His argument doesnāt even address the salient point of my post, which was that they thought that kind of thing didnāt happen that early in history. I point out an earlier example, and he brings up freakinā Braveheart - a movie absolutely renowned for its historical accuracy - which takes place approximately 1200 years after the events depicted in Dragon Blade and nearly 2000 years after the event I cited. Look, I am open to disagreement. Iām open to debate. Iām open to being called a fucking moron, if you want. But donāt fucking edit me and then tell me I didnāt provide examples. But thank you Elektra and Jammer! I appreciate you both! Thanks for having my back

2 pointsI'm looking forward to Monday's discussion. Disorder! Chaos!
-
2 pointsThatās my guess, too. Iām not really mad. Itās just kind of obnoxious.
-
2 pointsI am angry Paul didn't find out if Dan is the forum poster but I am willing to let that slide. Like some of you weirdos would figure out his IP or whatever. But Cameron! They used part of your post about champions but cut out the part on David and Goliath! Makes it sound like you are making shit up. I am starting a #Justice4Cameron campaign. Please donate.

1 pointIt's that time again! I just wanted to throw this out there since I know it can sometimes be awkward when the first day of the month is also the first Friday. Also, I'm giving us a choice of movie because, well, personally, I feel like The Room has been done to death. Personally, I would much rather watch The Disaster Artist than The Room. However, I know a lot of people love it. Personally, I think Supes 3 sounds like much more fun But whatever the group decides is totally cool.

1 pointJust wanted to give everyone a heads up that itās Girl Scout Cookie time again. Iāve got a box of Thin Mints (i.e. the perfect cookie) cooling in the fridge right now. Go out and get some you Cookie Monsters!
-
1 pointI noticed that too! I thought that was a very good example!! I'm backing #Justice4Cameron as well!

1 pointHey guys! Love the show, especially the Owen Wilson rap. Just wanted to say, when you got to Jason Sudeikas, you were SO close to Owen Wilson. They did a little unknown comedy together called Hall Pass. Itās okay, it has only 33% on Rotten Tomatoes. Love you guys. Keep up the great content!

1 pointI wish I could see this but I'm probably going to be out again this week! I'm going away to visit my oldest friend for a girls weekend! (in that I've known her the longest. My oldest friend is in her 60's should anyone care.) This looks fascinating because my mom loved the Talking Heads and I remember always looking at their cds and then blatantly ignoring them for Maddona, The Rolling Stones, and my favorites The Barenaked Ladies and this one Sarah Brightman singing the best of Andrew Loyd Webber BECAUSE I HAVE TASTE (and by taste I mean I was an insufferable theater nerd)

1 pointOne of these days, I will walk out with The Thing board game.

1 pointI'm glad no one called in to support Green Book and I'm disappointed in Paul and Amy for glossing over how problematic it is. First, it's not a movie about Don Shirley and his white driver. It's about Tony Vallelonga and his story about driving for an African-American pianist in the South. Those are two very different films. Green Book was written by Vallelonga's son. The Shirley family has come out strongly against this movie for its inaccuracies, such as Shriley's alleged estrangement from his families, and even for the movie being made at all, which Shirley turned down during his lifetime. From indiwire: "I remember very, very clearly, going back 30 years, my uncle had been approached by Nick Vallelonga, the son of Tony Vallelonga, about a movie on his life, and Uncle Donald told me about it,ā Edwin said āHe flatly refused.ā Edwin and Maurice said they heard from Mahershala Ali shortly after they spoke about their issues with the film on NPR in late November. āI got a call from Mahershala Ali, a very, very respectful phone call, from him personally,ā Maurice said. āHe called me and my Uncle Maurice in which he apologized profusely if there had been any offense.ā āWhat he said was, āIf I have offended you, I am so, so terribly sorry. I did the best I could with the material I had. I was not aware that there were close relatives with whom I could have consulted to add some nuance to the character,āā added Edwin. Vanity Fair talks about how Mahershala Ali didn't even get a chance to meet the Shirley family prior to shooting. Aside from any racial feel-goodness this might give a white movie-going or Oscar-voting public, you can't talk about this movie without talking about its overwhelming problems. If this film wins any Oscars, I won't be shocked, but I will be pissed off. Also, the "Green Book" isn't a book of music, it's a travel guide for the Jim Crow south. Per Wikipedia: "The Negro Motorist Green Book [was] an annual guidebook for African-American roadtrippers, commonly referred to simply as the Green Book. It was originated and published by New York City mailman Victor Hugo Green from 1936 to 1966, during the era of Jim Crow laws, when open and often legally prescribed discrimination against non-whites was widespread. Although pervasive racial discrimination and poverty limited black car ownership, the emerging African-American middle class bought automobiles as soon as they could, but faced a variety of dangers and inconveniences along the road, from refusal of food and lodging to arbitrary arrest. In response, Green wrote his guide to services and places relatively friendly to African-Americans, eventually expanding its coverage from the New York area to much of North America, as well as founding a travel agency."

1 pointI really like that a forum favorite, Monster Trucks, gets a shoutout. Why isn't Monster Trucks on the AFI list?
