3 pointsIt's blocked in the U.S. but might be available in Canada or Europe. If you have a VPN that lets you appear as if you're in another country that might work as well. (I found a different YouTube user who posted all 6 episodes.) 2 pointsI don't think that would've helped the marketability all that much, but I think it would have made the film better. Though I guess a better film is going to be more marketable, so maybe. I liked the movie enough myself, but the lip synching was something I didn't, even though I understood why they did it that way.

1 pointThanks. That's weird because I tried going through a vpn yesterday. It was the only way I could see the episodes after 3. It worked today though.

1 pointOkay. Question time! I imagine one of the thing, glum story aside, that put off a lot of people were the musical numbers. Most probably went in expecting the actors singing and not just lip synching. Ignoring the meaning behind the characters lip synching to already recorded songs, if we wanted to make this movie a marketable success do you think having the actors actually sing the songs would have helped it at the box office?

1 pointI started watching the miniseries on youtube today. The first episode is really good. Bob Hoskins is giving a very different performance that isn't so creepy (yet). Unfortunately, I see the last episode isn't in youtube and there's no place to stream it. So, I guess I had better give up before I get too invested.

1 pointNathan Rabin has a pretty good write up of it here, with a fantastic joke in the opening paragraph. He seemed to feel that it was working pretty well when it was playing with the mythos/backstory of Santa, vs. when it's a movie about him vs. a modern bigwig executive.

1 pointIt's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the cumulative trauma the dog has experienced

1 pointNot arguing with you at all. While I like The Shining, I agree with you 100%. To me, it’s a three-star art house B-movie that’s fun and stylish, but also cold and not very engaging on an emotional level, which I feel more and more any time I rewatch it. I thought Doctor Sleep-while not perfect-was a much better film in terms of being character driven and I actually prefer that movie. I wasn’t arguing that Jack should have been cast, just wanted to point out that this oroject was already in the works before Steve Martin got involved.

1 pointThe only thing I've used Discord for is to set up meets for Pokemon Go raids and other events. I don't find it too useful for critical discussion. The Unspooled group on Facebook is very well-maintained, but having seen behind the hood a bit I know it takes a LOT of moderation to keep it civil. It still seems to be the main community outlet for that podcast, as the other ones just haven't taken off much. I would love for the forums to still be the main place, but participation has just been dwindling over there.

1 pointI know as much as you guys about the future of the forums, and I honestly don't think any higher-ups at Earwolf Midroll Scripps SiriusXM even know they exist. The exodus of shows from the network this year—Pistol Shrimps Radio, Superego, In Voorhees We Trust, Big Grande's Teachers Lounge, Off Book, Yo Is This Racist?, Culture Kings (probably), Hollywood Handbook—doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. For what it's worth, I created /r/MusicalMondays and /r/Unspooled on Reddit a while back. They're both currently private/vacant, but the glass is ready to be broken in case of emergency. (If any of you are Reddit users and want to be appointed moderators, I'd happily cede control.)

1 pointExactly! I don't want to just read a group text or a Twitter feed. I feel like the forums are a good place for a conversation.

1 pointAs someone who has Discord I will say I don't think it's a great idea, but maybe I'm just old. Admittedly there are some things on it that are appealing and make sense. You can create channels in it, so each mini and episode will have it's own dedicated channel for people to go into and comment. That's good. It's very mobile friendly. That's also good. It's easy to join and use for the most part which is good and bad. So I have a discord and use it with my friends for gaming together along with some texting back and forth with them. After getting on it I noticed that there was a YouTuber who's channel I was a fan of that was promoting his discord so I decided to join it. It was a nightmare that put me off joining others. First, anybody could join which meant just lots and lots of spam and just unwanted replies. This made me feel bad for the moderators because this was not their full time job but they had to spend a lot of time on this stuff. As a mobile user I had to turn notifications off because I was just getting lots of notifications that somebody had said "kk cool." It was hard to actually talk to others. With a lot of people on at the same time it encourages short replies and not long thought out ones. This has its benefits and disadvantages I suppose. I know if I wanted to type something that was more than three or four sentences it was better to use the desktop version than mobile. Then I would also look mad as it was a block of text in a sea of short sentences. To me one of the advantages of the forums is a lot of the people do serious thinking and research on things. Those post tend to be long of complicated. Discord doesn't seem like a fit for those kind of posts. If you want to point something small out or ask a general question yes. It might be better for a bit more back and forth but I think we'd lose a lot of the researched posts. The other thing is it is a nightmare to find things and navigate. It's just a wall of text. If you want to find something somebody said earlier and everybody is being active it is just lots of scrolling and skimming. Given how even on the forums people sometimes repeat other people (heck, I've been guilty of this) expect that to happen a lot more. I think though the end of the forums is more of a when than an if at this point. I know we've lost lots of great regular posters for various reasons. As some who has been around for a long time and made good friends here it will sad to see it go. I just hope whatever the future holds there will be place for us to enjoy the show and still share our insane theories, needless research, and hard worked out math.

1 pointI would love for Conan to interview Sacha Baron Cohen on the podcast. I'm sure it would be brilliantly insightful and funny. Thanks for the show!
