From the director of PS I Love You! Talk about damned with faint praise!

Sure, if you can find a weird international poster for me.

That is indeed the case. In the summer this was released, there was a great deal of publicity around Toronto to push this movie for its local flavour. I'm cringing in advance to have to see my city insulted in the way it inevitably will be.

I am already mad at this movie. It’s not set in THE Little Italy. It’s a Lake Placid situation. Argh. also I agree Kelly Thompson is great.

Paul, I would like you to take June to see this movie and then record her immediately after. Don't tell her anything beforehand. You're welcome for a brilliant podcast idea. Serenity has the Wackiest Ending of 2019 and We're Only a Month In.

Little Italy is mindblowing. Every minute there's something else to scream about. The fact that it's a Canadian Little Italy yet thick New York accents abound. The Indian characters put there just for the cheap jokes. Mr. Puzo buying pizza with "Mario" on his shirt. (Mario Puzo created The Godfather.) "Special appearance by Jane Seymour" and you knew instantly this was gonna be a doozy. The pizza tossing dad who clearly has never tossed pizza dough. The pervy female cop came completely out of nowhere. It seemed like they were going for a Melissa McCarthy-esque thing. It's all too much.

Just about totally in the weeds this week. I’ve got the movie ready to go, but I’m not sure when I’ll actually have time to watch it. Cinco, would you mind creating the thread for us tomorrow? I would appreciate it.

I just read the wiki for this film and when I saw what it was I instantly knew it has to be covered by the show. I'll give them credit for completely covering up the twist and not revealing anything in the promotional material, but holy shit that is a level of insanity that needs to be covered. I'm not wondering how it got greenlit, I'm wondering how a slew of Oscar winners and nominees read this script and went, "yep, where do I sign up?"

I definitely agree with Double Indemnity feeling a more written. It's quotable but completely unnatural (not that I'm complaining). Sunset Blvd. is just a bit wittier, smarter, faster than real people talking but you can imagine people getting close to it if that makes sense. I think where Sunset really shines isn't the dialogue but the tragedy of Norma Desmond and her relationships with Max. The are other movies that deal with the facing (or not facing it) aging, loss of career, recognition, etc. I hadn't seen this is in a decade at least and I had basically no memory of the first half of the movie outside of the body floating in the pool. I remembered so much about Norma Desmond's life though. That's why I don't see much reason to not include both Double Indemnity and Sunset even though they are same director, same time period and kind of similarish. They're really doing different things in my mind.

This might be a great double feature with Serenity... all star cast, crazy twist and misleading trailer.

Thanks so much for hosting another viewing Cinco! So glad I got to drop in for the last few songs.

It would not be weird. As an Italian myself, I say CELEBRATE THAT HERITAGE, especially when cake is involved. As for dishes I love, I have always had a soft spot for tiramisu. My uncle is an astoundingly good chef, and he makes this stuffed calamari that is... And pizza. Obv. And I must second Paul's Picks for comic writer Kelly Thompson. She is FANTASTIC. From picking up the reigns on Jessica Jones, to Kate Bishop Hawkeye, to West Coast Avengers to Jem and the Holograms, she has done SO MANY great books.

I'm probably going to miss out on this one. I have been enjoying a week long migraine that I get about once a year and I'm a living knot of back pain from lying in bed for so long . So now I get the pleasure of having my physical therapist bringing my creaky body back to life tomorrow and I have a feeling it's going to suck but also feel great? Bodies are so weird why can't I just be a floating brain in robot conveyance! Hope you guys have fun!
