Hey! I worked on that production of Love's Labour's at Stratford, as well as the Hamlet that's coming out this week. I work as video dramaturg for all of the Stratford productions, advising on text cuts.

I watched this scene like 5 times in a row, because the way the guy's hat flies off made me laugh really hard.

This is an unsubstantiated claim but supposedly someone asked about it at a live show. Paul supposedly said his current working relationship with Don Cheadle is why it hasn't been released. I think we should respect the decision if this is the reason since I don't want this show to directly impact any of the host's success.

I definitely understand why this movie has a great reputation. I liked it quite a bit the time I saw it but I understand the criticisms from a technical look at it. I didn't realize this was meant to be a cheap B movie and, had it gotten a decent budget, I'd probably push for it on the list. But with its ideas being examined better in other movies that are better filmed in the same genre, I'm good leaving it off. I'd keep this on to leave off Stage Coach if I had to. I never got the appreciation for that other than being earlier than a lot of similar movies.

I had never seen this movie before. I found it to be fine, but I don't understand why it's great enough to be in the Top 100. I wonder if growing up during the heyday of the clean, sanitized Western (the 40s and 50s) meant that any movie that even slightly tweaked the formula, like Shane or The Searchers, felt like a revelation. For me, having grown up entirely in a post-Wild Bunch world, pretty much every Western is dirty and morally compromised now. It's not unusual anymore for such stories to be presented that way, and to me Unforgiven seems like a more complete treatment of the same themes Shane addresses, leaving the older film looking a bit redundant on the list. I also agree with Paul's take that technically this film is not nearly as accomplished as John Ford's work was, so if we want an example of a more classical Western we should go with one of his. Glad I saw the movie, but it's a no. Also, yes, that kid is annoying as hell.

That's great and all, but it's not like you have the boyish charm and roguish sex appeal of a mid-aughts boy band member... Awww, fuck...

I was leaning to vote no but you might convince me to keep this on the list.

Yeah having listened to the recent crossover episode of HDTGM and How Did This Get Played where Paul and Jason shared their gaming history as they discussed Street Fighter: the Movie: the Game, both discussed their love of the series and overall the episode was fantastic to listen to. I know that ever since the first one came out a movie has been in development hell, but it's one of those story types that doesn't translate well into a feature film, especially the first one who's twist is reliant on player interaction. Plus the sheer cost of trying to make a film based on those games would be gigantic as it would have to be almost completely CGI for sets and effects.

Did anyone else think her "apartment" was an employee break room when they first showed it? All the stuff like the pay phone and arcade game, being attached to the gym seems much more like a break room than someone's home. I definitely didn't realize until much later that she lived there. Don't start this again!

By not adding raisins you're not adding the sex appeal.

Aside from V8, what is the least sexiest food/beverage? My vote will always be for coleslaw.

I’m loving all the new people on here! Welcome to all! I don’t really have much to add regarding the movie itself, but as Paul seemed to be struggling to identify the type of tank top that Billy was wearing without referring to the offensive colloquial slang that is often used, I just thought I would contribute that the technical term for those types of tanks is an “A Shirt.” Yeah, maybe a lot of people won’t know what you’re talking about if you refer to it as an A Shirt, but that’s on them. If they’re curious, they can look it up.
