Surprise bitches I'm back. Since Hobbs & Shaw drops tomorrow I had to come back to reveal my thoughts, because oh boy do I have them lol. I'm very excited to bring back This Week In Feminism too, because even though I was gone for a few months does not mean I have changed a thing lol. Buckle up, y'all lol. I also had to come back once I heard them announce 2:22 because, while I have not seen that movie so I'm sure it is terrible, Michiel Huisman is my fucking man, y'all. Ever since I saw him on Orphan Black I have been in love with him, and he is a much better actor than I'm sure they will talk about so no matter what I have to defend this stupid movie. Go watch Hill House cause that is a much better representation of his skills lmao. But he's so hot y'all. He's just so hot.

Maybe I missed something (probably), but I never felt like the love plot in The Maltese Falcon was ever meant to be sincere. I just figured that they were just using each other to get what they wanted ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't forget about the coffee pot. That sounds life changing. Also it was good timing of this episode so we know Casey and June are still friends even after that DROP DEAD FRED record.

And about the greatest gift Casey ever got her! Hint it involves a pizza but no music in the harsh Sunday light of day.

oh my gosh, sean bringing back "the vibe is immediate," and the pause beforehand when he's deciding whether or not to say it was the hardest i've laughed in a while.

Nicole Byer and Sasheer Zamata's podcast had June and Casey on this week (still waiting for the ep with Paul and Jason) and it is very good and I highly recommend. You get to hear more about June's clowning.

I think The Golden Child needs to be seriously considered. It's the first movie staring Eddie Murphy that is a total flop (besides that one with Dudley Moore), and it had huge expectations. It was a flop, and is a terrible movie, yet it's highly watchable. It's borderline racist. Seems perfect for HDTGM!

This is a no-brainer to put on the list in my opinion. This and Casablanca are the only Bogarts I need on the list, as they tower over the rest of his films, both in terms of his performance and in quality of the film. And after the stretch of super long films we've had, the 100 minute runtime of this feels so breezy, without a wasted second. We don't need to spend extra time introducing the character with a performance as great as Bogart's in this, as we understand his Sam Spade almost immediately. He doesn't quite click in the romantic parts here, just as those parts feel off in The African Queen (to be honest, his only truly great work as a romantic lead that I've seen has been with Lauren Bacall; even in Casablanca his chemistry with Ingrid Bergman works more because of the absence of outward romance). It's an iconic and influential film that is still a remarkably easy and fun watch today, and it'll make my top 50 for sure.

Don't play devil's advocate unless you have passed the bar and are currently representing Satan in a court of law, Tim!

It says "came out in your adult-life post-2000". I feel like there should be a comma there, but I read that as two criteria (even though each bullet point is supposed to be one criteria - nearly as bad as not labelling your axis on a graph).

Hello, dear friends and welcome to this good and funny show. I love you.

Yeah, that also makes sense. Maybe it's both? But yeah, RT launched in 1998, and the reviews from before they launched and right when they first launched are two totally different animals. Basically: Post-2000: Literally any review that they can find, from sources as lauded as major publications, right down to bloggers that are just a tiny tick above using a free WordPress site. Pre-2000 (Becomes more true the farther back you go): 30% critics giving orgasmic reviews to the kind of classic movies they do on Unspooled, just because they want to. 50% reviews from when something was first re-released on DVD or Blu-Ray. 5% modern reviews from critics of lesser-known or cult movies that they just wanted to do 15% archived reviews from top-level critics and/or major publications from when a movie first came out

Two big candidates: Constantine: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/constantine Wet Hot American Summer: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/wet_hot_american_summer (it's actually stunning to me that this only got 36%)

I'm saving the listen for my drive to work, but according to my google images search the guest is an actual woman. (Edit: Whoa, imagine my surprise when I start the ep. and they retroactively shame me for referencing gender.)

This is our movie for the first Seattle showing. Anybody know how to see this without buying it from Neil Breen himself for $25?

Where I live, there are a TON of late night greasy-spoon places, and those that serve a mushroom swiss burger with fries are all tied for my favorite late-night takeout drunk food. At home, I think my favorite drunk-snack is to just roll up pieces of bread and dip them in random condiments. I try hard not to judge Canadian food on sight, or even on description. I tried poutine for the first time two years ago because my friends were raving about it and I was in Ontario. It's fine but it doesn't read well. The smell won me over enough to try it, I think. Do you think balls of crumpled up wheat bread dipped in honey mustard or sriracha would play up there? If so, I've got a proposition for you ... Thanks Winning the nothing-prize for the most contentious episode ever with a throw-away comment like that might make one hesitant to celebrate a meaningless victory, but ... Although, assist goes to gigitastic, since it was a reply to their post, so ... I like basketball, I love Looney Tunes, and I'm okay with Mike, and I was never compelled to see it.

They announced some of the movies for the tour today. I am trying to figure out why I am so deeply upset about Space Jam being on there. I have concerns about three white people covering a movie that is beloved by urban audiences. I hope they have a person of color as the guest. Or at least someone who knows basketball? Like, intellectually I know it was not a great film. And I have no problem mocking the Looney Tunes or DeVito or the acting of the athletes. But, R. Kelly the notable exception, if you come for the soundtrack we are going to have a problem here.

Well. That was devastating. I've never read "Jude" and am not reading along; I'm just letting Michael read it to me bit by bit. And lately I was wondering, why exactly is this book famous? Why has it been remembered beyond its own time? The novel felt to me like a fair amount of ado about nothing. Then this chapter happened, and now I see why it's remembered. Holy moley. I echo the other commenters in admiring Michael's reaction to, and handling of, that scene. It's got to be one of the worst things I've ever read/heard in literature. Wow.

I’m a week late for this episode but I came here to say this and it shocks me how many people don’t recognize it. It’s amazing show and don’t tell writing: the importance of Butch’s father, Butch’s legacy, the ticking clocks all around. It’s the entire reason why Butch is doing all the things he is doing. I made this because I’ve always had this theory.
