I’d like you talk for a second about Tessa and her mother singing Alouette. A jaunty French traditional tune that a lot of people recognize from French class or pop culture in general... but when translated is a fairly violent song. The English translation: Lovely Skylark, lovely little Skylark lovely skylark, I’ll pluck your feathers off. Each verse then describes each part of the bird that they will pluck the feathers from. A telling song for 2 women who pick and pluck at each other (and Lilly) metaphorically... and then perhaps literally when Tessa angrily cuts Lilly’s hair. Ultimately a smart little Easter egg for a pretty dumb movie.

Steve Mnuchin’s role is particularly interesting since it was CLEAR to me as someone who work in costumes and wardrobe that every aspect of Katherine Heigl’s costuming, makeup, and hair is supposed to look like Ivanka Trump. There is no way this wasn’t intentional.

Mad Max: Fury Road is a particularly good one because it's about how people like Steve Mnuchin go on to literally destroy the world.

I know Kate Hudson was originally eyed to play Tessa, but I can't help but think that the role was originally written for Louise Linton. Beyond Mnuchin's involvement…just look at her! The hair! The gloves! The racist undertones to her animosity toward Julia that I was convinced the movie was going to steer hard into, which Kerry Washington's near-casting also suggests! And most damning of all, Linton's total willingness to lean into her public persona as an obscenely wealthy psychopath. Beyond straight-up Cruella Deville-ing it with sheets of uncut money and insulting people for being poor on Instagram, there's the matter of her upcoming directorial debut: Steve Mnuchin should probably hide the thousands of fireplace pokers he presumably has in their castle. Or not, because fuck Steve Mnuchin.

I don’t really think werewolves of either gender look hot, so I’ll take your word for it.:) The special effects were trash for the 90s but would not have been great for the 80s. I believe my quote above reflects how this movie whole-heartedly embraces 80s horror tropes in general.YAY! i thought Michael Pare’s (sorry to be a spoiler but IT’s EXTREMELY FUCKING OBVIOUS) werewolf was such a moron that it was hilarious. His entire rationale for moving back home was so insanely stupid that it made the movie for me. It was icing on the cake. surprisingly, I thought the leads did fairly well for this sort of thing.

I played God of War III Remastered. I hired it with my brother for 2 hours, really cheap considering you're basically hiring out a 100 seat movie theatre. At home, I have a 55 Inch, 4K Ambilight TV, hooked up to the houselights and a surround sound, and the cinema screen just blew it away, incredible experience, can't recommend it enough.

Y'all... I did not like this movie. I cannot wait to hear what JDR has to say.

I found this to be a surprisingly innovative piece of cinema. It reminded me of The Wire haha. I don't know if knowing all the history about Kazan and communism is necessary though, but I guess it does clarify some things. A few of our earlier movies, I lamented when some of them didn't have a mood or a good sense of location, and this has it in spades. When a movie does that well, I'm definitely going to be all in on it, and that's what happened here. I thought it was all very impressive.

Unforgettable is so awful and Katherine Heigl character is so pathetic. ...and I find it grotesque one woman would prey another woman to an abusive man as a plot point. This is the first time I'm actually offended by a movie.

As I mentioned on Letterboxd, I'm still a bit confused about the ending, though I think that it makes more emotional sense as representing Kazan's political issues. I had known that Kazan saw the film that way, and even on this rewatch I found that read a bit of a stretch, but I think the key is that Kazan didn't actually hate communism. He just hated communists, both in the way the party operated in pre-WWII America and in the way Stalin ran the USSR. So Friendly is Stalin here, ruling with corruption over an organization that's supposed to promote the labor class. And part of me does think that this is what Kazan thought (or made himself believe) he was testifying against, as if outing the political leanings of eight of his former friends would somehow bring down Stalin. And then I see the ending as being a sort of bullshit Hollywood ending, as Amy and Paul talked about, but it is so because it's Kazan's wish fulfillment. He wishes that his actions could take down dictators, and that the people who felt betrayed by his testimony would change their minds and see that his actions were for the greater good. This interpretation fits with the film, but it also paints Kazan as not only delusional, but a little dumb as well, which he does not seem to be. The reality seems to be that Kazan acted in his own self-interest out of self-preservation, and the hardest thing for me to grapple with is that he doesn't seem to feel guilty at all over that. And sure, if he had refused to testify to HUAC, it is unlikely that his taking a stand would have galvanized people to end HUAC. Most likely, if he had refused to testify, he'd have been blacklisted too and wouldn't have gotten to make things like On the Waterfront, East of Eden, or A Face in the Crowd. And sure, his testimony probably didn't directly affect anyone else's lives, since the eight people he named were already known to HUAC anyway. But it bugs me that he seemed to show no remorse for it, and saw himself as the victim instead. He didn't stand up to a bully, like Terry Malloy did. He capitulated to the bully. So overall, my feelings on Kazan are that I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed. I love his work, including this film, which is my favorite of the ones I've seen. And in the realm of directors who have done shitty things, he's far from the shittiest. But it's disappointing that someone whose films show so much empathy and humanity seemed uninterested in empathizing with those who did stand up to the bully of HUAC, only to be silenced. This was another great episode of the podcast, and despite my misgivings about Kazan, this is a great film. I wouldn't put it in my top 10, but I have no hesitation about voting yes for it.

I saw it when I spent the day hanging out with a girl I was seeing and her roommate and her boyfriend. They streamed it for us and I'm pretty sure they neither paid for it or used pornhub to get it. I know she said she was moving to Japan soon but I can text her tomorrow and ask if she can ask them. I'll keep you guys posted! It's truly a WILD movie and you must see it.

I work in the public school system, so it would be frowned upon, to say the least. Also, as a public servant, while I am not overly conservative on how I spend my money (I did see Hobbs & Shaw in 4DX, after all, which cost almost $25), I just don’t want to use my hard-earned money to support Fateful Findings, which I never would have watched ever, if HDTGM wasn’t coming to Seattle (which, again, I am very excited about). My love of bad movies has limits. i also don’t want to get into the ethical debate of Pornhub because that’s just a massively complex issue, as theworstbuddhist pointed out in his previous post. I will say though, as a Seattle native who has friends who work at Amazon (and as someone who realizes that cities are meant to change)...fuck Amazon and fuck Jeff Bezos for what he’s done to this city. Do I think change is bad? No. Do I think people who work for Amazon are bad? Of course not. Do I think Amazon’s change is bad for Seattle? Yes. Congrats to New York for keeping them out. If you were here in Halifax at the public library where my wife works, someone watching Fateful Findings on Pornhub would not be the worst thing she sees in any given shift.

If the only place to realistically get the movie without spending $25 is going to pornhub, that's a really disappointing thing for the show to do to the audience. Even if the movie isn't porn, making the audience go to a porn site (understanding we don't need to watch the movie but ideally it's an option) to see it is definitely not cool. A lot of people don't want to see the adds on the side or support an industry that treats women as badly as the porn industry does. The show has posted links to stream the very hard to find movies like Rad or A Night In Heaven. Hopefully they will do that as it gets closer to the show date.
